Aftermarket alarm?

I just ordered a 2016 4 door without the factory alarm ....i had put in an inexpensive Audiovoxx voltage sensing alarm myself in my '04 MC ....has anyone put in an alarm themselves in an F56?

If you go with the retrofit, here are the directions. May also help if you decide on another brand.

As far as I know, there is no OEM alarm retrofit for the 3rd gen MINIs. I'm sure you can go aftermarket, but I haven't seen any installed.

Do alarms do anything anymore? Last time I installed one back in the old days, car was broken into and radio stripped out. I went to call police and when I got back the car was gone! No more alarm for me.

I don't think so...I had an Acura with an alarm broken into twice, smash and grab. Nothing valuable stolen, but annoying to deal with. Everyone just ignored it when it went off (in fairness, I usually ignore them too ).

Back then, it was before cell phones with video....one relied on home and business owners to call 911, so yeah bit more relevant now.

Try the Bulldog unit for $40.00. I have one as a back up for my factory one and enable that one when in tough areas....( always good to have back up ).

It is an easy two wire hook up and has a adjustable shock sensor and key fob operated.

Which model of bulldog alarm? Where did you buy? Which model MINI do you have and where did you find room to mount the unit?

THanks

In my signature, 2003 mcs. And there is absolutely no room under our 1st generation MINI bonnets but managed anyway. I am sure you can too.

This is the model, seems price almost double since my purchase 6 yrs ago.

You can barely see top of it, very top right hand corner. Square black box to the right of the chrome brake fluid reservoir cap.

kill switch

Does anyone run a kill switch? I'm wondering if it will throw a code.

Old school kill switches have saved a couple of friends cars.

yeah, there's so many electronic things in the F56 that i was wondering if a simple voltage drop sensing alarm will trigger a code or cause false alarms ......so I was wondering if anyone out there installed an aftermarket alarm

I see Grey Raven installed one in the 2003 MCS and i installed one in my 2004 MC and mounted in behind the passenger side strut ......not sure where i would be able to mount one in my soon to arrive 4-Door but there's always a place somewhere somehow

Will this work on my 2016 JCW F56 2DR HB mini?

I have most every option, except for Front Windshield Defroster and Factory Alarm

This product is for the R56 - a completely different car. Aside from the wiring (and everything else) being different, there is no way to program it on the F56.

As of now, there is no MINI Alarm retrofit and 4 years into the lifecycle, I doubt MINI is planning to introduce one.

You can buy the alarm module parts separately, but I'm not sure of the cost or where the module will go, if it's possible to wire into the existing harness (the F56s all have custom harnesses per car), and what it would take to program. Not to mention, the remotes are different for 3rd gen MINIs with alarm. I don't know if you would NEED to get a new remote, but you would definitely lose the panic button. Remotes run about $400.

Here's the parts diagram: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=65_2599

Panic button? What panic button? I was under the impression the panic button was only available with the alarm system.

That's what I meant - was that only 3rd gen MINIs with the alarm have the panic button on the remote. If you did somehow manage to install one after the fact, to get the whole package, you'd have to get new remotes, else lose the panic button.

I asked my service guy that handles all of the accessories for my dealership and he said there is no way to retrofit the OEM alarm on the 3rd gen. It must be pretty embedded into the car.

Here is a new youtube video from a Canadian tech showing the installation of an aftermarket alarm system using the Viper 3606 DBALL2. Jump to :36 for the start.

Nice find. With the DBALL the install is pretty simple.

I'm sure that is inaccurate. I have seen this done on a F30 3 series, and am assuming its the same for the MINI as the electronics are all BMW carry-over. It would require the OEM Siren, FZD replacement from a unit with the Alarm & requisite wiring and coding.

I myself purchased a used 2015 F55 with everything except Alarm & Power Folding Mirrors ... both of which i will retrofit to the car. I'll get onto the ETK and find the appropriate part numbers and hit eBay in search for some used parts. I'll provide an update once I have successfully completed the install. I also plan on either retrofitting a TCM from an F-chassis BMW that has NBT and telematics capability, or a complete NBT Evo retrofit to provide the missing features that the MINI Connected XL system is capable of, but BMW robbed us of by omitting the telematics ECU.

Stay tuned

just install the alarm without lock/unlock and start disable controll

*You just need an alarm to make noise when its broke in to..any local stereo shop should be able to handle that

I actually only want the OEM alarm as i want audible chirp for lock/unlock confirmation. I will not use any aftermarket parts in my car, especially electronic ones ... so i'll figure this out and post a full guide eventually.

The MINI is a 6th car for me, so not a daily driver and not a huge rush .. so it may take some time to get to this, but will get done eventually
