If you go with the retrofit, here are the directions. May also help if you decide on another brand.

I don't think so...I had an Acura with an alarm broken into twice, smash and grab. Nothing valuable stolen, but annoying to deal with. Everyone just ignored it when it went off (in fairness, I usually ignore them too ).

Try the Bulldog unit for $40.00. I have one as a back up for my factory one and enable that one when in tough areas....( always good to have back up ).
It is an easy two wire hook up and has a adjustable shock sensor and key fob operated.

You can barely see top of it, very top right hand corner. Square black box to the right of the chrome brake fluid reservoir cap.

yeah, there's so many electronic things in the F56 that i was wondering if a simple voltage drop sensing alarm will trigger a code or cause false alarms ......so I was wondering if anyone out there installed an aftermarket alarm
I see Grey Raven installed one in the 2003 MCS and i installed one in my 2004 MC and mounted in behind the passenger side strut ......not sure where i would be able to mount one in my soon to arrive 4-Door but there's always a place somewhere somehow

As of now, there is no MINI Alarm retrofit and 4 years into the lifecycle, I doubt MINI is planning to introduce one.

You can buy the alarm module parts separately, but I'm not sure of the cost or where the module will go, if it's possible to wire into the existing harness (the F56s all have custom harnesses per car), and what it would take to program. Not to mention, the remotes are different for 3rd gen MINIs with alarm. I don't know if you would NEED to get a new remote, but you would definitely lose the panic button. Remotes run about $400.

That's what I meant - was that only 3rd gen MINIs with the alarm have the panic button on the remote. If you did somehow manage to install one after the fact, to get the whole package, you'd have to get new remotes, else lose the panic button.

I'm sure that is inaccurate. I have seen this done on a F30 3 series, and am assuming its the same for the MINI as the electronics are all BMW carry-over. It would require the OEM Siren, FZD replacement from a unit with the Alarm & requisite wiring and coding.

I actually only want the OEM alarm as i want audible chirp for lock/unlock confirmation. I will not use any aftermarket parts in my car, especially electronic ones ... so i'll figure this out and post a full guide eventually.
The MINI is a 6th car for me, so not a daily driver and not a huge rush .. so it may take some time to get to this, but will get done eventually
