Hey ECS Tuning, any special deals coming up on the 25w Xenon retrofit w/black housings for R60/R61? The best deal I've seen so far is $440 each ($880/pair) through Flow MINI.

Hello ask,

We just have them here for the R55-R59 in titanium gray . 63102347698KT $844/ pair

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...fit-kit-6.html

There is no direct retrofit kit for the R60 / R61 yet. Maybe in the future , we will let. If you have the silver Xenon headlight you can swap to the new black.

Thanks

It looks like there is a 25w black headlight xenon kit for the Countryman / Paceman now. Looks like these will also need programmed or flashed by MINI.

The good news is they come in black housings. So they should look much like these. Of course without the black rings as those are part of the hood.

R60 MINI Countryman and the R61 MINI Paceman:

Xenon Headlight Black 25 W - Set 63102289650 & 63102289651

http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/63102289650KT/

Thanks and that's all the info I have right now. But very exciting for the CM and PM crowd.

Quick question about this set:

Is this plug and play for a halogen equipped car? Or do I have to buy anything else? adapters or whatever.

Also, I noticed this requires coding by Mini. Is this a genuine part or will Mini look at my funny when I drive up with this asking them to flash it?

thanks!

Plug and play ( then flashed ), this is for Halogen ( filament bulb headlights ) to Bi Xenon . Includes both left and right hand side in the kit. Genuine MINI .
They are 25 watt so they don't need the headlight washers, they just have blank covers. ,manual leveling. Can be adjusted with the adjustments on the back.

Ask your MINI dealership about the flash, most will not know about it yet since these just came out but it should follow the same like the R56-R59 sets. Give them a head up before you bring it in. They will strobe likely till they get the flash update on the LKM computer. See the R56-r59 threads.

Ordered mine yesterday from Flow MINI in Raleigh. They get $475 each ($950/pair). The lights are plug and play, using the stock connectors. The car will need to be coded afterward, which takes about 45 minutes. Mine should be here tomorrow. I'm going to install them myself and then take the car to the dealer. 4 bolts and 5 minutes per side to install.

do you know if the dealership is going to charge anything for coding? I'm not sure what that is and why it takes 45 minutes to do...

Dealers dont do that work for free. If you elected to upgrade your lighting system then you cant expect the dealer to flash/recode your system so that the new lights work for you at no charge.

Would love to see some comparison pics (particularly light output/spread) of the original Halogens vs the new 25w bi-xenons!

Will do. I'll likely install them Friday. I was quoted $165 for coding, but I'm friends with a Service Advisor and a Service Tech.

This might end up being better than you could get from the factory/dealer for people who choose to customize using the aftermarkets.
The upgrade kit is a genuine MINI part. They're 25w as opposed to the factory installed Xenons, which are 35w. This means they don't need auto levelers or washers. They are bi Xenon projectors just like from the factory. Coding can most likely be done with NCS Expert.

Countryman 25w Xenon Upgrade For R60/R62-image-2415097488.jpg

Here they are all installed, aimed, and coded. I'll post a pic tonight when it gets dark, but they appear to be just as bright as the factory ones. I'm told there is no discernable difference.

Countryman 25w Xenon Upgrade For R60/R62-image-338782404.jpg Here's one from the other night, but not a great pic. My car is on the right. My friend's is on the left with the factory Xenons. You really can't tell the difference. His has the chrome housings, and mine are black. I'll try to take another pic tonight.

Considering that they were $500 from the factory, $1000 to add them is not bad at all. Much better than the $2K+ it would cost to fit the originals after the fact.

Is it possible to do this coding yourself using NCSExpert? If so, does anyone know what the code is to do it?

I suppose it is. As far as the purpose of the coding: The standard halogen lights do not use a steady current for power. They use pulses. This causes strobing when Xenon lights are installed. The coding changes the electrical pulses to a steady current.

How to install Xenon Headlight Retrofits in R60?

Thanks to this website and those who wrote in, I've ordered a set of 25w Xenon Retrofits for my new R60.

I see the four "bolts" to remove for each headlight. But those bolts go through what looks to be an "adjustment ring" (not sure correct name). I'm guessing those adjustment rings are to get the headlight to sit nicely with the opening in the front hood lid.

When switching to the new headlights, what are the tricks to getting those "adjustment rings" set correctly. Do I have to do trial and error and opening the closing the hood lid a whole bunch of times? Or is there a better, simpler way?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey, how would you say the light output compares to the halogens? Can you see better? That's the main thing I need. Thanks!

From Halogen to Xenon - night & day. You will be able to see much more and they are bi- xenon so on high, the flap moves up, on the xenon ellipsoid and you can really see far ahead.

glenboston - there is no install PDF for these that I could find. Most info on leveling and such are linked in this thread, very similar to the R56+ headlight set up and install.

Opening and closing the hood to get them to align is the best way. Slightly adjusting those hex head tube bolts. If you eye them up close to the adjustment height on the removal of the old one and where they were set. Mimic them. That will get you close, then you will need to level the headlights , via minor adjustments on the back side like the R56 + 25w ones.

Thanks
