Rally lights not working

I bought my car over the summer which came with rally lights from factory option. I can't seem to find out why they are not working? I know that once the switch is on, it works with when you turn on highbeems but I've tried everything and still no luck. I double checked wiring etc and everything looks normal. Can anyone help?

The factory "rally" or driving lights (which MINI actually refers to as "additional headlights") - the ones mounted in front of the grille - are wired so that they only work with the high beams. If yours work like that, then they are working fine.

Driving/Rally lights, I am unable to get the turn on at all, even if I turn the highbeam they won't come on, I even parked the car in garage, turned the highbeams on and turned the switch and they don't work. I looked for a fuse and couldn't find on maybe in-line fuse in wiring harness perhaps???

Yep, they are called multiple things. Come on with high beams unless someone modified them to come on all the time. If you cant get them to come on with the high-beams like factory, you can make sure the little switch is depressed on the dash. Then check to make sure the lights themselves where not disconnected at the front near the grille.

Dash switch button.

You can see in the kit pic below where the connection wires come out of the housing.

Also check the inline fuse. You can see it on one of the install harness in the kit.

And here is the install PDF that shows you the inline fuse holder.

Also there is a relay type ( control unit ) that is inline also. You can see it in the pics, its socket location and on the pdf.

Thanks and hope that helps.

ECS, thanks for the links and pics, I'll have to trace down to fuse and see if that is out.. the diagram and install instruction helps a lot. I'll keep you guys posted, thanks for everyone's help.

Just wondering if you found a fix for this problem? I’m having the same problem with my factory aux driving lights. They worked when I bought the car, then started working intermittent, and finally stopped working all together. I replaced the control modual (relay) but that did not fix it. The fuse is good and is getting power.

Here is what mine is doing. I turn the headlights on (low beam) and then hit the button for the auxiliary lights. The green light comes on. When I hit the high beams the green light goes out and the fog lights do not turn on. When I switch back to low beam the green light comes back on.

Where do these lights get their ground? How do I test this circuit to find the problem? I looked at the diagram and thought I understood it but when I used my multi meter to test some wires had power that I didn’t expect.

In the install PDF liked above in my thread check the wiring diagram , its looks like A4 or A5 terminal connection under the fuse box in the engine bay.

+1 for inline fuse... mine is located next to the relay on the in the engine compartment firewall in front of the steering wheel.

Also, make sure you you test your lamp (bulb), easy way with a multi-meter and check for continuity.

Motor on!

Where do these lights get their ground? I have yet to find the location. I found the power wire in the fuse box under the hood. The pdf said the ground is supposed to be there as well but it’s not.

The inline fuse is fine but here the weird thing I noticed. I pulled out the control model and tested from pin 5 (power) to pin 6 (ground) as show on page 9 in the pdf and got 12 volts as you would expect. I then connected a jumper wire from pin 5 (power) to pin 8 (Driving light positive lead). I would expect one of the two lights to come on but neither do. The even weirder thing, with pin 5 still connected to 8 I re-tested pin 6 (Ground) to chasie ground and got 12+ volts??? How and why does pin 6 now have power going to it? It’s supposed to be ground. Am I missing something here or do I have a short somewhere and if there is a short why did it not blow the fuse?
