Anyone running Xenon interior lights?

Hey Everyone,

I was just browsing and came across this kit from EuroSportDesign:

http://www.eurosportdesign.com/p-166...hting-kit.aspx

Seems like it might be a relatively inexpensive way to "freshen up" the interior of my car, visually speaking. I was also thinking about adding carpeted floor mats at the same time, as I have the rubber all-seasons at the moment, and my heel has destroyed the carpeted section on the drivers side.

I'd love to see any interior lighting mods you guys are running, I'm certainly open to ideas!

save your $$. those are your standard overpriced chinese leds.
you can get the same thing on yes, ebay for pennies on the dollar.

some of those buyers even use the words "xenon" as part of their description, just like this guy.

Interesting, thanks for the heads up! I've dealt with EuroSportDesign before and was treated well, I assumed they were legit.

these would be good for backup lights:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/4X-T10-1W-Xe...4db4db&vxp=mtr

these are good inside for the reading lights and dome lights. i use them now:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-6-SMD-LED...70a334&vxp=mtr

this style is good for the doors:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1Pcs-T10-SMD...item5ae8857a81

these are fine for the dome light and, glove box? and those lights that light up the foot wells:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/36mm-Dome-12...7d2291&vxp=mtr

if you wanna use them in the boot, or as license plate leds, solder a 100 ohm resistor between the 2 ends. those are like, 1$ at radio snack. you can of course, choose colors too!

nothing against the company, but leds are leds. they call come from the same factory; its more a matter of how they are used, meaning how nice the units construction is. i have all kinds, they all vary in "quality", and ease of install, but in the end, they all work.

and heck, if one craps out, your out like, a buck

See my gallery.

Some of the interior lighting mods I find most useful are LED strip on the underside of the boot shelf, and in the footwells (front and rear). Both were discussed in this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...light-mod.html

I would recommend nothing but v-leds. They design all of their bulbs in-house and use proper heat-sinks and components to get the longest life out of your bulbs. They also use higher quality, more expensive LEDs that are brighter and have a more true color.

They also have amazing customer service. I've had a couple bulbs die after a year or so of use, I send them an email and they replace the bulbs no questions asked even though my warranty had been expired.

I think you can view my order for my 2011 R56 S at THIS link. If it doesn't work let me know and I can list the bulbs individually. This order was to replace every single bulb on my car except for the side marker LEDs, fog lights, and the headlight bulbs which have since been replaced.

One other thing I'll add is that you would probably be more happy with 5000K white interior lights instead of 6000K. The 6000K are pretty blue and look a little ricey.

EDIT:
Here's a list of the standard bulb sizes for a 2011 R56

Exterior
High/low beam (one bulb does both): H13 (9008)
Parking light (small bulb above fog light): 194
Front turn signal: 7505
Rear turn signal: 7505
Side scuttle signal: 194 (amber bulb)
Rear brake (2 bulbs per housing, 4 bulbs total): 7505
Fog lights: H8
Reverse: 921
Rear Fog: 921
License plate: 6418
Side markers (light behind fender reflectors): 194

Interior
Footwell: 194
Door courtesy lights: 194
All dome lights (5 total): 194
Glovebox: 194
Boot light: 194
Vanity mirrors use a special bulb that I haven't seen before.

Here are two pics that pretty accurately show the brightness and color of the 5000K bulbs.

Those look great! Thanks for the comprehensive list as well... however, I have a first gen, so there may be some differences. I'll have to look into that.

1st gen will use either T10s, and 36?mm festoons (for all the interior lights). i think you have a little "wiggle" room on the festoons, as you can simply bend the connectors if you get some that are bigger or smaller.

Here's a list of the sizes you probably have. I couldn't tell you for sure unless I was looking at the bulbs.

You should really heed my warning about buying the cheapest bulbs you can find. They're almost free for a reason. V-leds also gives you options about how the LEDs face, you can buy flank bulbs (all LEDs facing the same direction), 360 degree bulbs, forward facing bulbs etc. I tried to go with ebay bulbs originally a few years ago, they all died within a year and were all very dim. It's also very difficult to find 5000K bulbs on eBay and the ones that are listed as 5000K turn out to be closer to 6000K when you receive them.

Another thing worth mentioning is how hard it is to light up a black interior. You'll really notice this if you end up with dim bulbs. Look at the wattage of your bulbs, higher is definitely better. I've also found that, typically, a bulb with 100,000 LEDs on it aren't going to be as bright or reliable as a bulb with 10 big LEDs. I have these in my fog lights and they are incredibly bright for LED bulbs:

If you're looking to save, you could probably buy some eBay bulbs for non-important lights like the glovebox and splurge on your dome lights.

Check out their FB page too, they always have a coupon code out which will save you quite a bit.

Also, if you have any question about what size bulb to buy, eBay or other, just post a pic or ask. I know pretty much everything there is to know about LED bulbs.
