joey mod melting the inside of the light housing! any help?

So I "joey mod'd" the head lights a while back and now I'm starting to notice what looks like a burn or melting taking place inside the painted light casing, just before the bulbs on the plastic. I'm turning to you NAM, any one else expierence this issue and if so any help or feedback would be appreciated...

Mike

I'll post a pic soon as I get off work today..

Is it the actual plastic that is melting or is it just the paint is bubbling up where it may not have cured or stuck well.

If the later I can see it but if it is the actual plastic melting then you have other problems. there should be no reason for the plastic to melt.

Standard for the paint to buckle and head south just around the bulb area. When that happens, it actually adds 10 HP and makes your car faster!!

So far, there is no solution to this problem outside of buying the OEM lights that come black.

One can paint a soda can black or whatever color they choose with hi-temp paint, then cut to size and place over the cylindrical area that is bubbling. Someone did it here and it turned out OEM looking. Others wrap it in CF vinyl. or whatever your vinyl choice may be.

Looks like the paint is being heated and bubbling up. As for the housing material underneath the paint? Can't really tell.

What kind of paint did you use? I used a high-heat style of paint made for outdoor grills and don't have this problem on mine.

as did i, high heat meant for engine temps and BBQ grills if i remember correctly. I found a thread on the forum about the joey mod and it was the type of paint that everyone was using in that thread. i think it was the official thread on how to joey mod your lights. does anyone else have this issue? its so just a pain to have to open these up again and try to get rid of that nasty look but it looks as if there really is no other choice.

Mine isn't as "burned" as yours but I was very surprised when I saw it the first time... I used the matching body colour from Mapa, hight temperature paint, and with a high temperature sealing clear coat ... Not sure what the hell happened. My only option, I guess, is opening it again, and paint over it ... sucks as I didn't hear nor seen ppl on the forum mention that before

Happened to mine too. And I used plastidip. Mind you the plastidip just cracks, it doesn't bubble.

On the OEM black lights, they have a chromed-ish shield in this area.
