Ive been talking a little bit with Kevin from KP Technoligies (http://www.kptechnologies.com/) and I was asking him about the R56 "Heartbeat" alarm and if the was thinking of doing a Mod so that instead of buying the actual alarm and having it installed at a dealer you can just buy his Mod and every time you lock the doors the alarm lights in the Tach flash like the this
He seems very interested in doing something like this but is wondering what the interest would be.
So my question to you guys and girls is this......
If there was a Mod available to have the cool flashing lights in the Tach light up everytime you lock your car, would you be interested?
I for one would be very much so!
Ill send the link of this page to Kevin and he can see for himself the number of people who would be interested. This touches alot of people. Coopers, Cooper S, Clubman. Perhaps someone can chime in on if this would be good for Convertables.

As long as you don't need to take the Dash or Tach apart, I would be interested.

For you DIY's there is a build it yourself alarm simulator kit available from www.electronickits.com for $12.95+shipping.The model # of the kit is VEMK126. It has its own remote led lamp that could be mounted in the lens above the Tachometer. It works on the principal of the slight change in voltage from when the car is running on the alternator versus the voltage from the battery when the car is not running. It comes on automatically when the car is off. So it only requires a constant- on voltage source. It is also adjustable in flash rate. This sounds like it was just made for the MINI.

Don't know why he did not just add it here, but:

I installed something VERY similar and the output of the single LED is not bright enough to be seen except in full darkness when placed inside the tacho housing. So, you'll either need to upgrade the kit to a higher output LED or go with something else...
From looking at the retrofit wiring diagram found here: http://motoringfile.com/files/R56_alarm.pdf
I wonder if just supplying current over the X14272 connector would activate the factory LED circuit. With all the CAN BUS these days, there's no way I'm going to randomly put voltage to something that might be looking for some simple 1s and 0s....
If there are any EEs or service techs with more knowledge, please chime in.
