DIY Valentine 1 above mirror mount

So after reading through a massive number for threads and researching mounts galore for my V1, I finally decided to fabricate one of my own.
I considered purchasing one those ones that sit under the mirror, but to me first it was too expensive and second just where it would sit didn't appeal to me. I got my '09 MC last month and was itching to get this done.♦ So here we are...

I purchased a copper Milford hanger (the copper pipe holder thing, I believe the size was 3/4" by 6" - there is also a 12" one, but the most important part is where it screws into the suction cup spots) and washers for the screws at HD. As you can see it screws on PERFECTLY to the suction cup locations.

I bent the holder a few times to get the angle right.

Using the DIY for the V1 hardwire from this thread (http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...ew-mirror.html --many thanks crucial), I was able to see where the copper rod went when I stuck it into the head liner (I also hooked up all the wiring)
Took me a good 10 minutes to bend the right angles of the rod to conform to the angles inside the head liner. I used strong magnets to hold the rod in place instead of just allowing it to sit on the head liner.

After I sorted the rod angles bit out, I spray painted the hanger and screws black (just to hide it a bit)

Screwed it all together and voila! Stuck in the key and boom, SEXY TIME!

What is so bad about using the suction cup mounts? This seems like extra work just for the heck of having a weekend project. I mounted/hardwired mine on the passenger side very close to my rear view mirror and haven't had any problems for a long time.

It's just my personal preference. I'm not fond of seeing two little circles sitting on my windshield. Likewise it gives the potential thief something too look for (same w/ GPS suction cups).

interesting....
but dont you think if you ditch the hanger....you could come up with a better way of tucking the device itself inbetween the mirror and the headliner...and then wire the smaller unit thats available for the v1 to your dash or something....
good job

Did you lose the visor clip that came with the V1?

Does the same thing as what you created.

@fronjoni: true, I rather not spend another $40 for one of those dash boxes (I actually got the V1 from a friend who upgraded his radar to one of those $1,000 systems). So essentially yea I'm cheap. haha!

@Minidrivr: I never got the Visor clilp when i got the V1, so this is the closest way I could think of doing something similar. I've actually had many more insights after installing/fabricating this mount. Also I noticed those who just flattened out the visor clip just are having the whole unit hanging on the headliner, which keep in mind is relatively strong, but i rather have it attached to the metal above it in worst case scenarios (hot weather causing the liner to weaken and eventually fall down b/c of the weight of the unit attached)
