need help wiring up my DEFI gauges.

Hi,
I've just purchased my DEFI Advance CR Boost gauge.

I am having trouble wiring it up for the power supply, ignition and small light.

Where can i tap for those 3 wires inside the cabin?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Daniel

this PDF from alta should give you enough info to get the correct wire you need starting at step #13 (this is were the wiring starts) it give the colors and where to find the illumination, power and ignition wires.

You do have the control module for this type gauge as well correct?

The ignition wire is the switched power wire. Also you do not list it there is a ground wire but I suppose that you do not need help in finding a ground spot.

In set #14 is states: The red wire on cigarette lighter wire is switched power, and brown wire is ground. The Grey w/red stripe wire on DSC module is the illumination wire.

So do as follows.

Power Supply - Constant power

Ignition - goes to cigarette lighter wire

Small Bulb - Goes to Grey w/Red stripe on DSC module

This is the wire diagram for the DEFI Advance CR.
I'm only having trouble for the power cableing.

I'll try to see how i can use the Alta instructions for the Defi meters.

Thanks!

with out actually seeing the gauge and the controller i would say that you need to wire it int he following way

Controler -

Power - goes to continuous power

ignition - goes to cigarette lighter

small light - goes to DSC wire

There should also be a ground wire that goes to the controller as well, unless they expect you to screw the case to ground, but that weems very unreliable.

Gauge -

There should be a set of wires that connect directly from the gauge to the controller sensor input.

This guage can not be used by itself it must be used with the controller.

Here is the DEFI Advance CR Boost 1.2bar gauge with it's corresponsing control unit.

Today i mounted the ALTA Boost port to the DEFI boost sensor in the engine bay, together with my HKS BOV. Both sharing the vacumn from the boost port with a 'T'.

One thing that i really like with the new Advance CR range is that they now come with either a max 1.2bar boost meter, perfect for our 0.8 max boost (stock) MINI's.

But they're slightly longer, so ALTA's pods are not able to hide the bum of the gauge.

Today i managed to route the boost sensor wire into the battery compartment, i didn't drill any holes, i just slipped it thru the gap between the chassis and the plastic wiper cover thingie.

And you do not need to remove the wipers at all, the plastic wiper covers things come in 2 pieces, i simply removed the 2 nuts and 1 screw and slowly, massage it off the car. Once that cover comes off, the entire batt compartment can be easily accessed.

To penetrate the fire wall, i removed the round plastic cap that's behind the battery. its held on by 3 clips, just use a flathead screwdriver to gently lift the 2 upper tabs and it will come off. Exposed is the huge rubber gromet that lets the core wires into the car. There is a piece on that gromet that i cut to run my sensor wire thru. And viola, done!

It's all mounted up.
But my ALTA pod isn't here yet, so it's just double sided taped on the dash.

And i am having an issue with the back lighting on the gauge.

It doesn't come on when i switch my headlights on. BUT, if i have my headlight on before i start the car, the backlight works. And as soon as i turn off my lights, the backlight won't come back on anymore.

I've double checked the illumination wire, disconnected, the backlight doesn't come on at all. So it's not that problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
