replacing the factory switch console to control hood mounted lights?

I bought the OEM driving light kit from MINI to put on my '03 Cooper S.

It came with the wiring harness and a switch to mount in the side of the pillar. I didnt really like the idea of an extra switch, so I found a complete switch console off ebay with the switch for the driving lights installed.

I can't seem to find anything in the Bentley that gives a clear diagram of how these get wired in. Looking at the plug for the switch console, it appears that all the pins are being used/wired, so I thought I would splice into the plug, except I cant find anything that tells me what does what..

Has anyone done this? What wires do I need to splice?

Here are some pics to help demonstrate what Im trying to do.

I'd like to take the driving light retrofit kit and omit the switch supplied in lieu of the factory console switch.

Hi. I see you just joined. Welcome to NAM.
You can't do a direct hookup with those switches. They are momentary contact that send a signal to the BCM (or other compter) via CANBUS to control the selected loads. It looks like you already have fog lights. Do you want the new ones to operate separately? If so you could add a SPST switch to the blank spot in your old switch panel. Other members of NAM have done it.
Or...as a roundabout solution, you could add the new panel, have the rear fogs programmed to operate, add a relay to the rear fog circuit to run your new front driving lights. If you dont want the rear fogs you could pull the bulbs out.
I never see the complete switch panels on eBay. Good find.

What am I looking for on this site? I cant seem to find anything that gives me what i need to know.

Also, the blanks to the sides of the e-brake are oval. The switch is rectangular.

OK you have an old version centre console, hence the round blanks.

You need to install Java and Adobe SVG viewer to use the website I linked to.

I have done some digging for you...very kind of me.

The push switch with the kit has 4 connections :-

Pin 1 GR/RT wire, this is the backlighting, comes on with sidelights.
Pin 2 BR wire, this is earth/-ive
Pin 3 BL wire, this is switch ouput, it is an earth switch, when you press this it is connected to earth (Pin 2).
Pin 4 GN wire, this is the +ive feed to the green LED in the switch.

The toggle switchpack you have bought, with Front Fog toggle switch ,I assume, works in a very similar way, so this is doable.

You need to take the individual wires out of the 4 way connector that goes to the kit push switch and put them into the connector that plugs into the back of the new toggle switch pack like this:-

GR/RT wire from Pin 1 is no longer needed as the toggle switchpack already gets a backlight feed.
BR wire from Pin 2 is also no longer needed as the toggle switchpack already gets an earth/-ive feed.
BL wire from Pin 3 needs to go in cavity 13 of the toggle switchpack connector replacing the wire if already there.
GN wire from Pin 4 needs to go in cavity 17 of the toggle switchpack connector replacing the wire if alreday there.

Now the Front Fog toggle switch should arm the new spots just like the kit push switch with the LED in the end of the toggle lighting to show the stystem is armed. All the rest of the kit needs to be installed as per the attached instructions except for the other end of the GR/RT wire @ the radio connector which is now not needed.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Chris
