Hello I have been looking around these forums for the past couple weeks and I think this site is put together very well and just as easy to navigate.
In particular I have been looking for pics or experiences on installing a Radar Detector on the back shelf or on the back headliner, particullary the V1 w/remote. I know I would lose laser detection. I want to go stealth, mainly to prevent theft. I love the idea of putting the remote in the mirror.
But if I had to choose, I'd rather have better *front* radar detection than *rear* radar detection. Especially since I drive considerably faster than the cops.
And you get the best front detection with a high front windshield location. And that still gives you excellent rear detection.
The above-mirror location for the V1 works well and is stealthy enough for most folks. Mine is covered in a black nylon "footie" and most people don't even notice that it's up there. It looks like part of the car - not like a radar detector.
Any concealed or out-of-reach installation requires both the V1 remote display and the V1 remote audio control to be useful. I have both - the remote display is on my steering column in front of the speedo/tach; the remote audio control is in front of my right knee. I can control volume or turn the unit off without reaching up and touching the headunit. I can pull the display of the column and toss it onto my shelf under the dash in about three seconds. So, for practical purposes, I can make the whole thing "disappear" very quickly if I have a reason to, like an encounter with a LEO. So far, I've avoided all "imperial entanglements" thanks to the V1 and good situational awareness.

Absolutely. I read some of your other posts as well as others and they all seem like very good installs.
We all know how it is though, you get an idea in your head and you just want to make it reality. So with that, I wonder how much sensitivity I would be losing having the module in the rear? Will it be worth the hassle?
I guess the best way to test it would be to find would those roadside speed indicators. I live in Vegas and there are plenty between here and Cali.
I am hoping somebody might have some first hand experience. I know there is guy in the mini2 forums, I would like to establish my \self in this forum first.
Since 90+% of speed detection comes from the front, that is where you need the detection. All speed traps in the state of Maryland are stationary trooper cars or speed cameras. None of the enforcement agencies here cruise around behind cars to nick them for speeding.
