Interior light randomly coming on?

Sometimes when I'm driving, I'll notice that my interior lights just randomly come on for a few seconds, and then fade out..
Any ideas?

The doors are all closed and stuff. I'm lost to why it would do that.

I'm not sure what MINI you have, but on the GEN1 Cabrios, the boot switch doesn't always get pushed down all the way & the dome light will fade in-&-out as the boot door moves.

When this happens to me, I find somewhere to stop & reclose my boot firmly.
This has always solved my fading dome light problem.

I hope that is all it is for you too...good luck & happy motoring

FYI - there is a revised switch for the gen1 cabrios that solves this problem - it's a little longer. Had mine replaced a while back.

Ah. Okay. Glad it's a common problem with the cabrio's. I indeed have one myself. I guess it's about time I put that in the signature.
Thank you for the info.

Is it a dealer fix under the warranty? That would be awesome.
I just got my Mini so I'm still trying to work out all the kinks, so I appreciate the info.

Yep, warranty item as long as your car is still under warranty. Takes them 2 minutes to unplug the old one and plug in the new one.
