Hey experts. I just bought a 2009 MCS and I'm installing a sub. In the right rear access panel I found this plug (in the boot). Any idea what it would go to if I had the option?
Also... is there a place to pull power in the boot for an amp that maxes out at about 20 amps?
there is a remote wire back there but to hook up the amp you got to get one of the boxes that tap the speaker wires. but first you need to swap the channels
I suspect that it is for a boot-mounted CD changer, which also can be used as the connection for XM Direct and perhaps Sirius.
Except that a 2009 does not have an option for putting a CD player in the rear. It would go in the secret compartment above the glove box.
XM/Sirus would be under the front passenger seat.
So it is not for any of those.
Can you get a better picture of both ends, i.e. the open end with the holes and the other end with the wires.
As for the power in the rear capable of 20 amps. The lighter socket in the rear has a 20 amp fuse on it but in some cars (not all) the wire going back there is not capable of handling 20 amps continuous.
I would suggest that you run a new line directly from the battery for main power for the amp and get a harness form newministuff.com so that you have amp turn on and audio for the amp. The problem with those is that you have to take the radio out to put the harness in.
You did not mention which system you have in the car, Standard or HiFi. if you have the HiFi you can get to the amp turn on line at the amp. If you have the standard system the only place to get to the amp turn on line is on the back of the radio.
Also depending on the system as to the freq cut off of the rear channels. check out the thread about rear channel swap.

Too late for the connector pics... Everything is back in it's place and now the connector is under the crossover. I ended up running off the lighter power... I'm not pulling that much current and it seems fine. We have the non-hifi system, and I've already done the channel swap. Got my 12" sub installed.
The Nav equipped MINI's have a GPS Receiver installed back there and that looks like the connector for it.
