Hmmm, this might be providential. I am traveling west from western NY and just might be in your area for the parade. I'm always up for a MINI event of this sort! Equally ironic, I've been eyeballing on of Doug Whalen's shift machines for a long time too. I plan on spending the night in Freeport, IL. I just noticed that's where Doug is...
I'm about 20 miles from Doug, but go to college about 2 miles from his house.....Make sure you let us know when you will be in the area.

I'll be around the house the Friday before the parade; but as things are looking right now, I may not be able to make the event.
My son is driving back here from Denver on Friday, arriving late Friday evening.
I'm sure that neither he nor my wife will feel like a drive to Iowa, so I may be sticking around home and spending time with the kid.
Well, I must have gotten all dithered seeing the stars lining up as I thought they were. I just read the not-so-fine print in the thread again (you know, the stuff in red). I see I had to be registered by August 21 to participate in the event. Ruh-roh. Am I out then? Or can I be a late registrant?
I think you'd be fine, tedswoods. Especially if Doug isn't coming. You could take his spot.
So...I'm a bit confused about the candy.
Should we bring it or not???
I guess never having been to the Swamp, I don't understand what the Entry is and where we can and can't throw it.
Thanks!

Indeed I am confused as well is it candy or not I know in years past MINI folks have thrown from the cars but I dont want to break rules if I dont have to.

Unfortunately, I'll have to bow out. With the kid coming home from Denver this weekend, I'll be sticking around home.
I suppose that leaves an open space with your name on it, if you want it.
In regards to the "Candy" issue... Parade rules say throwing candy from cars creates a potential problem with children running into the streets. That being said, sometimes there are walkers and "careful" throwing to the curbs of the streets.
I have extra spots in the entry registration, and since MINI's are so small, I'm sure we can fit others in, so the more the merrier!
See you all there.

Please think about joining us next year. Always fun to show off our "decorated" MINI's escorting the "Eastern Iowa MINI's" Princess of the year!

Kids and I are geared up for this event!
I'll be doing some detailing today so that I can just do a quick wash/dry tomorrow. See ya in the morning!

* Meet up at 8:30 AM (or earlier if you want to clean up your car) at the car wash across the street from a mini-mall at the intersection of South 11th Street and Grand Ave.
* Get there via highway 100 (Marion bypass), turn off at East Post Road, go North about 3 blocks. East Post turns into South 11th Street.
* Highway 100 is Collins Road from the West, and from the East it intersects highway 13/151.
* Staging point for the parade is two blocks from meet up point.

I saw that, but I was actually looking for a physical street address, not an intersection. It will work, nonetheless. Thanks Gary.

is there a rain date or plans as it is looking awful wet?
Unfortuneately there is no rain date. Hopefully we will have a dry spell. Not the weather we wanted. The directions I previously posted plus Gary's note above should get you there. We are meeting just three blocks off highway 100 on East Post Road. You should spot us off to the right at the car wash.
