EIM Border Skirmish Drive - 4/17

The EIM Border Skirmish Drive is a twisty motoring event in the scenic bluff country of NE Iowa and SE Minnesota, starting and finishing in Decorah.

Meet up time is 9:15 am at the Decorah Trout Hatchery, which is located in Siewers Spring State Park off of Trout Run Road about a mile south of town. Our lunch stop is Doc's Blue Moose in Spring Grove, MN. We should arrive at the cafe around 11:30 am and plan for an hour stop. We plan to finish at approximately 3:15 pm in Decorah, where we'll have some dessert and refreshment and can recap the highlights of the drive. We're also expecting a reporter from the local decorahnews.com to stop by, take some pictures, and document our gathering.

If you have GMRS/FRS radios, please bring them along.

*See the attached PDF file for a detailed route map.

RSVPs are always appreciated. You can do so by adding your NAM name to the list located in the EIM Calendar (<-link) for that day.

Get ready to motor.

I'm leaving for Mexico on Friday but I'll be back in time for this super fun event! The first high energy event of the motoring season.

Atlanta, then Mexico? You two are quite the world travelers!

Missed you at GC; looking forward to seeing you in Decorah for this drive.

Gary,
I'll put on more miles just going to/fro Decorah. So I'm making the trip up a MINI run as well. Eventually I'll take 51 north from Potsville to Ludlow. From Ludlow should I stay on Hwy 9 or take the A52? I'll drive up the night before and stay at a local hotel. Any recommendations? (I hear Gary's Bed & Breakfast is a 4 star establishment .)

Don't go to Ludlow...best way is to take a left on Frankville Road (County Road W4B) when you get about 4 miles north of Postville. The turn is shortly after you cross over a creek and start heading back uphill. This route is shorter and it's a much nicer drive.

The hotels/motels run the gambit here. These might help you out:

Tony and Jess (and their wee back seat driver) plan to join us too.

Since it's their home town, I'll bet they know what's best on the menu at Doc's.

With the exception of giving the restaurant a final number later this week, everything is pretty much on autopilot at this point.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

At the risk of jinxing us...the weather looks to be almost perfect for this drive. A bit cool in the early morning, but otherwise ideal for motoring.

I believe we deserve it. Getting psyched!

Gozer won't be as clean as I would like-no time for more than a quick rinse at the power wash- but the lug nuts will be freshly torqued!

Can't wait!

The kids and I are here at the Super 8 her in Decorah.
Oldsbear and Lolly are here too.

On the way up we ate dinner at Breitbach's in Balltown.
They had a dinner buffet going on for 15.95 for adults and kids were 1/2 price. I love a buffet but 15.95....no thank you.

Looking forward the complimentary breakfast here at the Super 8.
See ya in the morning.

Hey everyone, great to see you on this beautiful day! Hope you enjoyed the selection of roads on the route today. Here are some selected pics from our drive:

Paul and Nora, your "little excursion" was a total bummer. Hope you're back up to full operations real soon!

Tony, thanks for sharing your local knowledge today...it was much appreciated.

Excellent pictures, Gary. And, once again, thank you for a superb MINI adventure. That Border Skirmish is one of my favorite MINI events.

Thanks for the planning and coordination. Thanks to Janis for the delicious treats as always. Always nice to come up to your area for the drive. Too bad for "HALFPNT". Hope everything works out to the positive.
