I stopped by to let you all know that Des Moines' 3rd annual Cornball Run is coming up June 13th. The same as previous years, it's a 10-checkpoint road rally around Iowa's rural highways. We did add a new "secret minimum" time this year to keep us and you out of legal troubles. We hand out the checkpoints when the rally starts. Each team chooses the order they visit the checkpoints, and the route they take. First team to all 10 checkpoints and back (after the secret minimum time) wins the cash.
Entry fee is currently $55, but goes up in May and again in June so sign up now at cornballrun.com !
So the challenge is on! Don't worry I have to find a co-pilot as well. After this weekend no one wants to ride with me. My instructor even found an excuse and approved me for solo.

I paid my registration today, so Im official. Never done anything like this. I hope its a good time. Yeah, she will be the navigator/picture taker. I think we should get some interesting pictures out of it. Anyone else thinking about doing it?
So the husband and I entered the race again this year. We were interviewed by City View and the Cornball Run made the cover: http://www.dmcityview.com/cover.shtml. We proudly represented our Minis (both of us own one, this year I think we're racing mine,) and they had a great shot of us inside the issue standing beside my Mini! Super cool! Great press for our cars!
Had a great time. We came in 21st out of 38 teams, only 24 minutes behind first. I think we were the first mini back. We had one bad leg where the Garmin we used, calculated a wrong route and we lost about 20 minutes. It would have been close if we didnt have that hickup. Of course, Im sure about every team had their own unique situation that set them back. Anyway, I will definately enter next year as it was so much fun. I would highly recomend it to anyone.
Here are some pics that we took at the checkpoints.
Jeff, congrats on a great run and appreciate the pics (you've a sweet Clubbie there!).
Wow, 38 teams...I don't seem to remember anywhere near that number of entries in past years. Seems like this event is gaining in popularity. Do you know what amount the winner went home with?
I'll bet you were salivating when you saw that the organizers had selected some of your everyday local roads to motor on!

I think I remember them saying there were 9 teams last year. So it grew over 4 times bigger this year. They also announced that next year they will pay 2nd and 3rd place, instead of just 1st. This should get more people to join. Im almost scared to see how much bigger it could get next year.
The winner walked away with $1700. Not to shabby for 5 hours of driving around.
Yeah, when I seen that 4 towns were in my general neighborhood, I was excited. I flew through those towns. However, that caught back up to me in the Attica/Williamson area. Stupid Garmin. The funny thing was I drove right by my house while in the race. That was weird! So I figured I might as well stop an take a quick bathroom break. That cost me probably 2 minutes.
The good thing with our Mini's, is we dont have to stop for gas. I overheard a few people say they had to stop and get gas.
Hey Ball - I friended you on Flickr - we've got our photos up as well. It was a fantastic turn out!! Talk about an amazing first prize - the team that won seemed really nice.
It appears that a ton of people stopped for gas - we ended up with about a half a tank left at the end. Much better MPG than last year.
I was totally lost at the beginning this year and it really cost us - but next year is a whole new race! Hope to see you then!
