I've blocked off the days on my schedule, cleared it with my spouse, and am hereby publicly making a commitment to represent Eastern Iowa MINIs at MITM3!
According to the inaugural post by the MINI5280 Club, MITM3 will be back at the fantastic Copper Mountain area again from 6-10 August 2008:
I would love to organize a convoy of Iowa MINIs to head out to the event. I think I recall Rob and Lisa expressing an interest in going; not sure if there are others. We might also work it so we can link up with our CORN and Loess Hills friends to the west enroute, as well as the IA Yahoo! contingent. For that matter, we might also hook up with folks coming from the east if they pass our way.
I'm starting this thread to investigate interest among our group and solicit replies/commitments. If we obtain a critical mass, we can supplement our website with additional planning details.
Sounds like a great summer vacation...hope you consider coming along!

Hey I will join you guys. Us CORN folks had 7 MINIs in the group from Omaha on last year.
Hope to see you all in Chicago for the MINIUSA event there in July.
Jim
PS If you are looking for a place to stay in the halfway zone Kearney, NE is in that range and just North of my place.
What day are you planning on leaving Iowa the 6th and driving strain thru or the 5th and making a hotel stop.
Honestly I dont need to stop I have driven many a 30 hour stint so 10 should be cake
I'm staying flexible for now, thinking about either the 5th or the 6th. Waiting to see if the WI and IL folks have a group departure time that would support us making a rendezvous as they past through. In addition (or alternatively) it looks like we might be able to hook up with some of the CORN folk (see Zyamfier's post). We'll have to see if they have a draft itinerary that we can plan around. I'll check their forum to see if they have a planning thread yet.

Will hopefully be going if Time and money correspond..Probably won't stay up north there as I prefer the Colorado Springs area but will probably stay somewhere in between the two locations.

Haven't considered on-site lodging yet, but have been pondering the trip out. I'm leaning toward your earlier suggestion of going as far as Kearney on August 5th and doing the rest of the trip the next day. That might also be a good place to suggest a rendezvous with the C.O.R.N. contingent on the morning of the 6th and perhaps get a convoy together.
Janis will probably be staying with my sister's family in Ft. Collins during the event, so I've got my eye out for some semi-primitive lodging near Copper Mt. jsouz from MINI5280 mentioned some dorm-style facilities right at the resort, which I might try to leverage if it's available to out-of-towners. My options are still wide open.

(BTW, I've got my reservations made for the evening of the 5th at the HIE in Kearney -- sounds like the May 29th tornado damage is mostly in the northeastern part of town; most of the business close to I-80 are likely okay...)

Okay Iowa MINI fans, EddyM and I met and discussed our caravan plans to MITM at Elkhart Lake this past weekend (during MTTS--what a great time!) and here's the scoop:
We plan to rendezvous for the trip west at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5 at the I-80 rest area just west of Des Moines. It's somewhere around milepost 118 or 119. We plan to stay overnight that evening in Kearney, NE and then complete the trip to Colorado on Wednesday (hopefully after meeting up with a few C.O.R.N. MINIs that morning).
Anyone coming along that way is welcome to join us!

We are heading up to CO and are planning to leave on the 5th and drive straight through. Our daughter lives in Denver so we are going to spend time with her. Have already set up some work to be done on our mini on Friday with one of the venders that was at Road America. Looking forward to seeing more MINI's!
Bill, you were at RA for MTTS last weekend? Sorry to have missed you.
Have a good trip out and we'll see you there (actually, I beat you to the punch--my installs are scheduled for Thursday morning so I have the rest of MITM to enjoy them... )
