Anyone interested in a stand alone ECU for a big turbo upgrade?

I am just trying to gauge interest in doing an upgraded turbo kit for the R56.
My guess it will be around $2k for the complete ecu system and you will be able to plug N play

This will allow control over a big turbo system for maximum performance.

Owners ring in and leave some feedback for what you want/expect out of the system and I will see what can be done!

I would definately be interested. I love my Mini to death but honestly I need waaaay more power. I poke around in the r53 forums and see big horsepower Mini's and I just wish I had an option for a good tune if I wanted to go with a bigger turbo. I stopped modding my car and now im gonna sit back and wait for a good Tune and big turbo kit to come out.

Sounds like a winner here! How do you think a turbo enhancement will work with the JCW stage 1 programing? I just paid $2500 for that installed and I hate to throw it down the drain so soon.

I read somewhere, 225 ft lbs torque and 225 ponies for the R56 automatic.

BTW, a lot of people here via PM's give you the thumbs up. Congrats on your good reputation Jan.

We should be starting the ground work for this in another week to see how feasible it is and to see if we can run everything without check engine lights

I would go for it especially if this can be done with the stock ECU (& JCW tune) vs piggyback. I suspect it is doable doing something like 2009 JCW turbo with matching MAF and exhaust ....

Are you asking if you can keep the stock JCW map?

this system will replace the stock ECUs duties except running the dash etc. It will have full control over the engine, traction control, 2 step etc

Well I really do not care about the JCW mapping since with a larger turbo it is useless. What I care about is not have a unichip setup that can not be removed when problems arise.

How are you planning on "replacing" the stock ECU ? Replace it with what ? Do you really mean replace or really piggy backing another ECU ?

this will allow you to unhook the stand alone and hook back up the factory ecu anytime you want.

I have a Factory Built JCW, and i'd love to see what can be done with a stand-alone. It's probably the only engine mod i'll ever do.

Can you offer a guess as to what you'd expect with a factory JCW + standalone ECU (dyno tuned)

Jan,

Very interested in this, I was close to selling the Mini for a 135i, I'm definitely craving more power other cars I have looked at are the WRX STI and the EVO MR. Not sure if it is possible with the R56, but I'm looking to get into that performance territory. 5.0/ 0-60, low 13's 1/4 mile.
What are your thoughts on the performance gains possible and are we looking at upgrading other engine parts, clutch, etc. to handle the extra power??

Thanks,

Braden

those figures seem possible with a few upgrades
we are working on a few things but the TVS needs to get finished in the next 2 weeks. After that we will be working on this as it's now a high priority. We are building a wiring loom for it now
