I installed the ITG foam filter in my JCW intake this afternoon. No problems with fit or installation. There might be some increase in supercharger noise Can't comment on any additional performance from just the filter as I also installed the Detroit Tuned bypass valve (and removed the VGS mod as it never made any difference on my car - it was installed properly as all connections were intact before I removed them). Throttle response has improved and so far I can no longer detect the horrible yo-yo I had in my car...
How does one clean/maintain the ITG filter. I'm going to get one because it has to be a better option for the JCW intake over buying a 99$ paper filter everytime one gets dirty.
Also, any tips on installation? Or is it as straightforward as it would seem?

There are cleaning solutions available. I run RC cars and they have foam filters and one uses rc fuel to clean them so when it comes time I will most do the same.

I have one on my BMW and it came with cleaning and re-oiling stuff. Pretty easy to do and arguably one of the best filters on the market. I'll eventually get one for my JCW airbox
I'm about to find out, my jcw paper filter has been performing duty for one year. I just got an ITG filter in the mail as recomended by some of you here, will install tomorrow if its not too cold.
I'm trying to remove the top off my jcw airbox to replace the filter. I see the two t25 screws in the front of the airbox but something in the back, towards the firewall keeps the top from coming off. What am I missing ? I did use the search looking for a how to or a diy thread but could not find anything. Help me remove my air filter, thanx.
NeilM - If you clean the ITG with soap and water, do you oil it with something?mb
The washing is to remove soiled oil. I use Palmolive dish soap, which also leaves my hands silky soft and smooth <g>
According to ITG one should not leave the filter to soak in water. Get it in, wash it, rinse, and allow to dry. BTW, my ITG cone filter takes about a day to dry fully. I imagine a panel filter dries more quickly.
You can also wash it in kerosene, but jeez, who wants to have a bucket of kerosene standing around?
The ITG filter should come with a spray can of their oil. I'm still using the original can, so haven't had to try any alternates. The ITG oil is more sticky than oily, which is of course how it should be. It's fairly important with all these 'oiled' foam filters not to over-oil them, since you don't want excess oil to fly off and contaminate stuff downstream. That's why the original ITG oil strikes me as the stuff to use. I assume that one can buy more from the original filter vendor?
I used them for years (BMW's cars) and loved them. Glad I can get an ITG for my Works air box. Clean w/ dishwashing soap, warm h2o, quick wash, rinse, no SOAKING & don't squeeze (ring-dry) the filter too hard or you can de-laminate the foam layers. SLOW drying & be careful not to over-oil or it will clog the pours.
FYI: I always had 2 on hand, one dry/clean unit for quick changes while the drity one gets washed & dried for the next rotation cycle.
as far as I know myminiparts.com, where I got my ITG filter, doesn't sell the ITG Dust Retention Coating "oil", you'll have to find it, or something similar, at a local store or order it via the internet at e.g. BimmerSpecialist.com
I installed the ITG filter today and removed the stock paper element. The paper filter didn't look TOO dirty after 13,000 miles, but when I tapped it on the ground, lots of stuff came out.
This detailed summary helped out A LOT, even for me, a mental and mechanical midget:
It took me longer than the 10 minutes described here because it took a while to get the thing off. Now that I know it gets caught on two flaps, it might be easier next time. I hope I reconnected everything correctly.
I feel absolutely zero difference between this filter and the stock.
I felt the same thing - but the car sounds louder, not sure if that's because the paper filter needed changing (I was at 14K) or the change to foam. Anyway, the main reason I changed to the ITG is not needing the replace the over-expensive paper filter with a another over-expensive paper one...

myminiparts.com got my ITG filter to my home in 48 hours! Very nice dealer! Install is a bit more complex than I expected but the next time will be faster.
-ITG fits perfectly. Seems to be a bit more intake noise (more air one would assume) and some subtle aural changes (SC whine more pronounced) and the throttle response is a tiny, tiny bit faster & smoother.
The real surprise is during "sporting" driving moments, at WOT, near the ideal up-shift points when there is NO MORE micro- throttle stall/choke off. This has been an small but ongoing JCW uissue w. my car and the ITG has magically solved the problem. KUDOS to ITG!!
-PS. ITG (induction technology group ltd) sells it's "dust retention coating" in a 200ml spray can. After cleaning & drying the filter, just spray a LIGHT coating on the foam filter & massage it a bit by hand into the filter matrix (yes, give a it a nice gentle message!) I will find the invoice where I purchased my ITG filter oil & post the vendors ID asap.
