Stock temp gauge = free underhood gauge?

Has anyone ever done this, or thought about doing this? It could be a good way to keep an eye on underhood temps w/o having to get an extra gauge stashed somewhere in the compartment. I did a search but didnt find anything.

I'm at work so can't go monkey around atm, but thought I would bring it up.

That is a good idea, about a month ago when I had the M7 3 piece grill set installed there was nowhere to put the temp probe. Peter had just installed the AGS system and the air filter is right next to where the temp probe comes out of the wiring harness. Peter just poked a little hole in the plastic cover on the air filter and stuck the probe right in. Now when I switch to the temp display I am reading the temps from inside the air filter. Kind of cool, no pun intended.

Pictures??

Can anyone share a picture or two of where or how to get to the stock temp probe??

I am interested in reading a different temperature beside the outside temp... I usually have my windows down when driving so I know how hot or cold it is by that. But watching engine temp would be more interesting..

Thanks.

I would be interested in the top end of the probe...

i.e. would this make a good post-IC temp sender?

Give it a shot but keep in mind that the ambient temp has a pretty limited range. When you get above 45*C or so, humans tend to expire so the probe may be constructed accordingly. On the other hand, the MCS engine is happy inhaling air considerably hotter than that. I've logged 90*C+ coming out of the intercooler.

I don't have any pictures, but the external temp probe is located behind the front bumper cover. It's skinny and black, and simply pushes into a slot on the bumper cover.
