CatCams 469 + 550c's + Bytetronik tune fitted!

Hi guys,

Yesterday i got my next couple of mods fitted and i'm very happy with the result: the CatCams 469 cam + a set of fresh Bosch 550cc injectors + a custom tune done by George from Bytetronik.

This is my list of mods as it is right now:

JCW 210 kit
17% CravenSpeed pulley
Shorter drive belt
GP intercooler
ITG cone filter
JCW airbox (flap removed)
CatCams 469
Bosch 550cc injectors
Janspeed manifold + stock catalytic converter
JCW catback exhaust
M7 thermostat
NGK BCR8ES spark plugs
Custom Bytetronik tune (+ Launch Control)

I gotta say i'm really impressed with the results!
The car now pulls like a train all the way to the rev limiter at 7200 rpm.
I was worried about the low down torque being a bit lacking (usual tradeoff with a big cam), but it actually got better, since this tune is custom and my previous tune was a simple flash file.

I'm impressed with the way this tune was made, much more time, effort and detail than the average 'tuner' and much more focused on the wishes of the customer.
You can really tell George knows what he's doing, i think he is one of the very few people i trust with my car, his work is only done when he and the owner are 100% satisfied and happy about the result and i am very happy!

Somewhere in a not too distant future, i'll get it dyno'ed and i'll post a sheet by then.
For now, i'll keep on motoring with a big smile on my face

It was a pleasure to meet you and thanks for your service, George!
I can really recommend Bytetronik to everyone.

This is a video of the first start after the parts and base tune was installed:

If anyone has questions, feel free to ask!

George and the ByteTronik team get way too little credit in my book, I've never been dissatisfied with any of the tunes and the way the car performs in all aspects of driving.

Damn, that little mini has a nice lope at idle...never heard one like that before! Can you give some more specs on the cam?

Yeah sure, this info is pulled from the 1320 site:

Duration@ 0.1 mm+cl-------------Duration@ 1.0 mm+cl---------Max Valve Lift

CatCams 1302469
262°/ 266°--------------------------218°/ 222°---------------------10.00 / 8.50 mm

OEM Mini:
255° / 254°-------------------------198° / 200°---------------------8.40 / 7.85 mm

I love the idle the way it is now, i had the choice to have it lumpy or smooth.
I wanted it this way, since it gives some character and car enthusiasts may notice it!

I was afraid of (the lack of) throttle response from a dig, but this turned out to be a myth.
The response is so much better than the stock map and you really need to try quite hard to make it stall.

For a reference, i already came across a couple of nice cars and they all saw my taillights :P (Golf V&VI GTI, GTE & R32, Vectra 2.0T, R56 JCW, F56 and a Volvo D6 hybrid)

Yes, the combination CatCam + Bytetronik really makes a big difference!

What do you mean you had a choice? Doesn't the way the cam is ground determine the idle? Or did they do something with the tune to make it idle rougher than it should?

No, i'll make myself clear, apologies for that.
If idle speed is kept like stock (i think something like 800 rpm?), you'll have the lumpy idle.
Alot of tuners that want it smooth, raise it a bit (1000 rpm or so).
You should ask BT yourself if you want details on how they do it.

So just for clarification, they didn't make it extra lumpy or anything, this is just how the cam runs at stock idle speed.

how much hp should it make? I'm weighing my options for track car, I think I'm skipping head as the $ per hp is terrible on them

I don't wanna make bold claims, but depending on the health of the engine, i think 210-220 hp on the wheels is possible.
