R53 LSD from ford focus ST170

I see a couple companies market the ford focus ST170 LSD units as mini R53 compatible

anyone know if this is true? Was looking at cusco & tran-x LSD's for my track car, Mpower also sells a gear type along with OBX on the cheap end

I like the factory LSD as it seems to turn quick and yet still give inside power if I could find a pull out or a cheap 05-06 trans I would just go that route

I paid 950 shipped for my oem trans with LSD, so they can be had on the cheap. Check out bowautoparts

uhh that's not cheap for a manual trans! lkq has them all day for 1100 but I do not know if I trust them on LSD vs non LSD

yea I guess not, I couldn't find any cheaper with a LSD though. Not too easy to find either, much cheaper for an open diff.

The trans in the SVT focus (02-04) is the 'same' as the r53, therefore the Ford LSD (Torsen type 2 IIRC) fits. It used to be had for ~500, not sure any more. Just for giggles, the Quaife part number for both cars is the same.

I'm guessing if you have a factory LSD it won't be cost effective to tear it out for an upgraded unit.
