Second cat and resonator are gone. Not sure about it..

I had the deletes done at lunch yesterday and I’m not sure what I think. It’s been rainy here and I haven’t driven around much. So far I don’t know how I feel about it; I will either end up loving it or will make some kind of change.
Going down the highway at cruising speed you can’t hear any difference from stock. But when you give it a good bit of gas and take off, let’s say from 60 mph. You and everyone else knowns you’re going.
This I can live with, it’s the low speed stuff I’m worried about. At idle it sounds good but when you take off it’s a bit louder than I’d like. It doesn’t sound like one of those kids with a rice burner, but its close. Maybe too close.
I removed the cat to help the car breath. This was done in preparation for the next mods. I didn’t think I could handle a cattless DP and I’m worried about emissions with a hi flow catted DP. The intercooler is on its way and I’m not sure what I want to do.
If I was 15 years younger I think I’d love the sound…

On a different note, the bubble and pop out the back is there in a big way. The thing about that is all us Mini people know what that is and many think it’s cool. I’m not sure the general public doesn’t just think somethings wrong. If I heard the pops coming out of my car coming from a different style car I would think what I’ve always thought, “that was some kind of back fire, they should get that looked at”.

I don't see how it would sound like a rice burner, other than the fact that its an inline 4, and that will never change, but a turbo gives it a much different sound than a fart can. put a resonator back on it. the catless will help the turbo spool but if its not the right noise for you, try putting the resonator back on

I have my resonator removed but the cat is still there. I honestly don't notice much difference at all while driving. I've watched YouTube videos before I had it removed and it just doesn't sound as loud when removed in person as it does it the videos. I don't think the resonator is going to quite it down much if you think its too loud without the cat. I kept the resonator and even looking inside of it, I wonder why they even put it on the MINI's, it does very little.

I overheard someone say "man, do you hear that guy's car? Sounds so weird"

That make me a little sad.

I'm going to go driving around at lunch today and try and decided what if anything I do. I was hoping by re adding the resonator it would do a little something..

With my fjcw exhaust, it sounds like gun fire.

I could care less what other people thought, but that's just me.

I felt the same way when I removed my resonator and 2nd cat.

The pop and burble to me was way too loud. I ended up not using sport mode much. I sometimes wish I could change the programming to get rid of it completely.

Try putting the resonator back you'll probably be happier. It will alter the tone a bit but it might not reduce the volume much.

I did a resonator delete on my '10 JCW (no 2nd cat) and loved the sound w/ the stock DP; just did the same thing on my GP plus an Akra DP and am not sure about it yet (it's pretty intense for a DD). The car has been stuck in limp-mode so I haven't had time to live with it yet, but I ordered a small resonator to throw on just in case. If I end up putting it in there (good chance I will) I'll let you know what it does for the sound.

Cool,
I drove around some today and I think I'll get used to it. It's not as bad as I was thinking. However, If I was told a resonator would quite it down a bit I'd do it tomorrow..

FWIW, with my '10 I didn't feel like removing the resonator itself changed the sound level significantly, it just brought out the pop and burble more - so in theory adding one back in wouldn't do much more than to take the edge off (which is what I'm aiming for on the GP).

Does it drone pretty bad for you? I'm thinking of putting my resonator back on for that reason.

No, not much drone. My problem is going from 20 to 50 mph. Just a bit too loud. I suppose I have a little drone at cruising speed but not enough to really bother me..

So I ended up adding a 12" Vibrant bottle-style resonator to my system this weekend, made quite a bit more difference than I would have guessed a short little straight-through piece would have. I would say that, even with my Akra DP and no 2nd cat, it's now just a hair louder than the car was with the stock DP and the 2nd cat/res combo in place. You may actually end up quieter than stock if you add something similar back on to a system with the stock DP. But hey, at least it doesn't drone as much now...
