Even the CHP and radar agree the Manic Tune and my DP, make the GP fast. They didn't see the three DP's I'm taking to the my Ceramic guy. Nice guy, but I still got written up.

Speeding, front tint, tinted windshield, taillights, and. no front plate. He just said he liked the sound, but end up with only cosmetic tickets.

So how does one get caught without the factory cats? Oh and do you have pictures of mid section and down pipe? My MCS was sold by Carmax without a front license plate.

You would get caught, if you pissed off the cop, so he started looking for things to make your life Hell. I'm always nice, turn off the motor, and have my paper work ready to go.

I can say from experience that at least in CA there are random portable CARB stations that they set up on occasion similar to a DUI check point.
You first see a sheriff or CHP standing in the road checking cars that go by and he randomly selects cars to pull to the curb lane and up ahead is a portable station where they run your car and check the numbers. With no CAT there is no way your readout will be within spec and they will investigate further. Apparently the fine is in the 4 figure area. Now this is not just in CA as I hear my old home state of CT s even worse.

Just so all of us Cali guys know, those roadside emissions checkpoints are NOT mandatory. You can refuse, and be on your way. I was waved into the inspection lane in my 94 Pontiac Bonneville because they heard my 80-series Flowmaster. I told the cop that I was on my way to work, and did not have the time. I assured him that my car had just passed smog 2 weeks prior, which it had, because everything is stock except the muffler and dumps. He then told me that it was not mandatory, and I could decline. I said "Thank you, Sir, I decline", and he stopped traffic for me to get back into the flow again. Just so y'all know. This was about 2 years ago, but I am pretty sure nothing has changed.

I also declined and was sent on my way. Also my car is way too low to fit on the rollers.

WOW, this is unbelievable how "big brother" is breathing down our backs while allowing all these ultra loud and obnoxious Harleys and other twins go wizzing bye blasting my ears & nostrils out. At least our cars perform and can carry stuff.

Lots of cops have Harley's, so they give them a "pass" on the noise deal. Not fair, but it is what it is. My biggest ***** is lane-sharing. I am sitting at a redlight, and some ******* on a bike decides to "lane-share" and get between me and the other guy at the light. Good for you, you can now "blow me away" off the line! Well, maybe! Guess what, dude on the bike, I don't hesitate at a green light. You had better be ready to go, and not automatically ASSUME that you can swing into my lane when that light goes green! I have almost had my Mini and my Chevelle clipped MANY times because these bikers underestimated my reaction time, and my car's ability! It's not a contest, really. But think for a second! If you wanna get off the line fast, you better be ready on the gear, and be ready to go. Don't sit there, clutching and trying to get first. And make DAMN sure you are CLEAR before cutting me off. Rant over. Just be safe, bikers. I watch out for you, just give me the same respect.

That's good to know, what a great country we live in! It would be hilarious if you were to enter a DUI checkpoint only to say I decline. Lol's

I rode bikes for 30 years; sport bikes that is.
Splitting lanes and forging ahead at lights are the perks that come with the territory.
I just dislike HD b/c they are piles; they really would not have survived past the 80's if not for the unprecedented protection they received form the U.S. government. The dinosaurs perishished and so should have Harley Davidson!!

With out the CAT you won't pass the Mandatory Smog test here in CA. Either visually or on the machine no pass no registration renewal until you pass. They could also send you the BAR or ARB to have a real through smog check and then with CATS you could be cited and fined and forced to make car compliant and then be checked every year instead of like it is now.

As long as there is no CEL on and it at least LOOKS like you have a cat, it should pass. My recent CA Smog test on my GP did not use a sniff test...was OBD only. I don't think mine would pass with high flow cat and header...but with the o2 spacer it did

Test guy: "Before I begin...has this car been modified in anyway?"
me: "....nope. It's stock. "

those are optional in california, doesnt matter what the cop tries to tell you but CVC says the mobile stations are only for surveying purposes only and are not mandatory

I would say that just driving off if you are flagged for a stop would be disobeying a police officer's order. What are they likely to do about it? I figure not much. But I am not willing to chance it. Ya never know...
