test pipe install / o2 sensor question

Hi guys,

I have an '02 R53 track only car that does a great job passing subaru's in my class.
I would like to get rid of the stock converter and put in a real header with a test pipe. I understand the second o2 sensor is used in closed loop to tune the A/F ratio. I heard you can emulate the sensor BUT would this defeat the purpose of the the computer watching out for the motor so it don't hurt itself?

Or would the ECM need to be tuned to eliminate 1 sensor?

I want to make sure this motor lives as long as it can on the track. It has so far…..
