135i Brembos (Same as Mini GP2s) upgrade thread. Dump info in here!

So guys,

I just got a deal on a pair of front 6 piston Brembo calipers from a 135i (performance package).

I've done my research and these calipers are the same as the ones in GP2s.

I want to start this thread for those people who want to do this upgrade also.

Is there anybody out there that has done this before (I know there is ) and will share information on how to acquire the brake caliper adapters and rotors?

I will post pics once I get the calipers.

I appreciate any volunteered help :D!

And if it is hard to acquire the brake caliper adapters, how hard would it be to get some fabricated (if they are not the same as the ones in the 135i)?

Thanks guys,

Manny

assuming you have all the dimensions having them fabricated would be quite easy.

The cost may not be easy to stomach though

Just depends

I see you're very good at fabricating metal from your build thread so don't hide away, I can have those dimensions soon haha!

suggest piston upgrades if planning on any serious track time.

What rotors are you using? I have a 135i that is going to get a brake upgrade soon and I just happen to have an R53 also that will need brakes!

I have a gp2 and is searching for slotted rotors to replace the standard one with, please share your findings

Also afaik the master cylinder in GP2 is different than coopers/jcw, so it maybe worth replacing it as well.

Also they have a picture of the bracket here

330mm x 26mm, should easily be able to find a Wilwood two piece rotor/aluminum hat setup fairly cheap. Just have to look at the offset of the hat.

I will probably use OEM Brembo rotors part # 34116858071
http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-17...-bmw-part.aspx
Have in mind the 135i is a 5 lug rotor and the mini is a 4 lug rotor (100x4 to be more specific)
If I'm not mistaken the rotors are 330mm x 26mm.

This is an on-going project, probably will have all the info updated by december. I have been trying to source through the OEM manufacturer the mounting bracket, if not I will have it machined.

One thing to be considered is wheel fitment. The wheels on the GP2 are 7.5" wide, and most of the OEM wheels for the Minis are 7" wide. Nothing that can't be solved by a wheel spacer and some longer lug bolts. Depending on the offset on your wheels, you can also consider buying new wheels if you have the money and want to go all out.

The brembo part number for the caliper adapter is : 20.9747.85
Found it while looking at some pictures on ECS Tunings website :P

Also some other part numbers to throw in: (these are easy to find)

Caliper housing right is part # 34106858070
Caliper housing left is part # 34106858069
Brake Pads part # 34106860642

I think I read in some thread that the master cylinder on the R53s are just enough to work with these calipers.

Yeah, even the r56 S master cylinders will work, it's just a matter of pedal firmness and feel

I just emailed wilwood if they make their SRP rotors in the 330x26 size

Recommendation!! If you upgrade to theses calipers save yourself some grief and get yourself some TI SHIELDS from www.hardbrakes.com.

If making dedicated track car you will need to run some cooling ducts. If weekend warrior some attention to brake cooling need to be addressed.

I ran 3 seasons of time trials in a BMW128 with theses calipers with shields and cooling and did not damage the pistons. I even have them for sale. (Maybe)

Please ask me any questions about theses calipers as I had a lot of experience with them. I

I am working with op on caliper bracket

What are you doing for the Hat? Having custom ones made or finding some that might work?

Wilwood has 12.88 (327mm) x 1.06 (26.9 mm) which you could (if you wanted) turn down to GP2 specs.

The problem would be getting the hat like MarioKart said.

I will probably stick to OEM if its to hard to find a compatible disc. What other options do GP2 drivers have? Looks like they are stuck with OEM pretty much.

I have a well known guy that can make me two piece cross drilled. They would be 4lbs lighter a corner, but it would cost $900 for the two fronts

You just have to measure them and look them up in the catalog and order them. It's not a big problem. Did it for my Mazdaspeed Protege.
