Have my 1st Dyno appt. scheduled... have a few questions.

Next Tuesday I finally have dyno time... actually my first ever. Maybe you guys can help clarify a few things for me...

HP/TQ chart = determined by the rollers
EGT = don't think there is a probe for the Dyno to tap into, but I can monitor it through the ECU with my Torque app.
Timing = Torque app through ECU
Ordered AFR = Torque app through ECU
Actual AFR = Torque app through ECU and probe in tailpipe
RPM = Torque app through ECU, rollers
Boost = Dyno tech says he can tap in for this.

I should be doing the runs in 4th gear, have traction control off, and redline is 6650 for my 2007 MCS.

Couple of questions....

- Am I missing any variables I should be logging w/ the Torque app during my runs?
- For tapping into boost... where to do they grab this? If the dyno shop is (literally) used to only work on supercars, is there anything to be concerned about if they've never dynoed an R56? Do you T-off in the same place for boost on all cars? Do Dyno shops have a bunch of adapters to mate to each car?

Thanks!

The TQ App is a good system. You shouldn't have to tap boost since the TQ has it, as long as the settings are imputed correctly

Well my boost was very low vs what my tuner stated it should be at. What settings are there in the Torque app? Perhaps I am missing them?

Some newer dynos actually plug into the obd, similar to the torque app. They can then plot any parameter that the obd logs, eg rpm, boost, egt, air intake temperature, timing advance etc. I had mine done on one of these recently, and it was really useful.

This Dyno is more traditional then, just a Dynojet and I leave with a DRF file to provide to my tuner.

They state they can "tap into boost" but I'm worried they won't be familiar how (heck I am not familiar) to do it with my MINI as they are used to working on high-end supercars.

I'm still interested in any custom settings for boost via the TQ app. Perhaps I am getting the desired boost but I have a setting wrong and thus only got a high of ~15PSI in the app, post tune.

i wonder if its similar to what i see. Using the scangauge II (OBDII plug) i see 4-5psi lower vs my vacuum boost gauge.

What tune are you running?

Battle Stage 3 on 2007 MCS.

We saw similar boost readings with the Torque app as well as a scangauge.

I'm going to slightly hijack here. I posted this in the Battle/DNA thread, but so far no answer. I'll just copy and paste:

Naive question as I've never done a dyno run, but when doing a dyno run does the dyno need to be able to simulate a load to get a proper reading? The dyno in town here can do runs, but the load simulator is not working. I assume you do need a load, but I thought I would check with everyone else who has already done a run to see.

I honestly don't know Grizld700, this is my first time on a dyno (previously road tuned w/ my EVO). I'd call a competing shop and flat out ask them or call Dynojet corporate.

Naïve question, but what do dynos cost to have run? I'd assume a range of pricing based on locale, equipment, but what kind of range?

Usually $75 to 125 for three pulls.

In the NE.. $140-150 an hour. That's 3-4 runs generally and sometimes the shop will give you a discounted rate for additional hours provided they don't have to strap your car down again.
