Bolt-ons to make N18 more high-rpm-happy? (Keep torque up to the end)

Hi, I am grabbing parts to make my 2011 R56S more mid-high speed track biased,
Need some info/advice what to buy...
having 3 years of driving(incl. tracks/auto-x) on N18,
I know stock N18 tends to go sluggish after 5500~6000rpm especially when the temperature is warm/hot..

I got a cat-back, and it seems the exhaust moved the torque zone a little to higher side, but not enough.. I like mini's low end torque, but that's useless at track...:(

What else I can try? I basically want to avoid ecu flash tune for now.

I am planning to buy forge intercooler... DoS intake is coming...

But should I try DP as well?

OR,,, Are bolt-on parts not that effective to get high-rpm torque? Should I just live as is and get ecu tuned later???

I know I can always shift up early @6000 as this guy is doing on the Ring, but then why there is 6500 red line? not just 6000?

pretty much boils down to programming, the factory programming dives right around 6100 like you stated. Not much to you can do to compensate for what they program in but here's a stock dyno pull vs stage 1 Manic on GP2. Not huge gains or anything crazy but big difference when it comes to that end of the gear pull when you don't want to shift.

one graph tells way more than 100 words. haha.
Thx for the info and explanation..
Will try some hardware mod first(cuz I already purchased most of I planned),
and then will see.
proly Will do ecu mod at some point.

For now,, I just wanna keep enjoy beating higher powered cars in session and getting respect after. haha.

DP can help as I feel a little more push in the high end, but honestly a tune will make a difference from the right company. What is your suspension setup like?

The reason your car isn't making much power at the high RPMs is because that teeny little turbo that gives you lots of low-end torque can't keep up at the higher RPMs. All the downpipes and intakes in the world aren't going to change that.

True, but it's hard to find a tuner who's capable of actually getting the correct specs out of a K04 or any bigger turbo. People claim that tuners have, but I have yet to see actual results on this forum and others.

Thx for the input, actually Way also told me same thing on dp.
Will eventually do JCW turbo+DP+ecu.. but I already spent more than $10,000 to my mini recently.. without any power mod. no more budget left for power.haha

unfortunately my suspension is all stock(sport option) except hsport comp rsb.
I didn't know my local auto-x competitors are equipped with koni28 series or fatcat custom shocks :(

Thx for the reply,
Actually I have two different cars both have K03 on them. (2011 GTI, 2011 MCS)
So.. I am well(not enough may b) aware of K03 factory setup and thier concept in terms of "usable power band".
I was just hoping to hear something like.. intake/exhaust tune can at least free up some restricted airflow and give me some more reason to use above 6000. haa...

K04 make sense.. but feels like over kill to me..
My friend is running a VW/AUDI shop and a APR dealer, had a chance to play with his APR demo car, 360hp 390tq GTI K04.
power only useable on freeway after 3rd gear. heh.. not my taste..
I'm an idiot(like the other guy said) but different kind of.

If there comes a tuner offering a tune with lively torque band up to high rpm range with K04, then I will consider,, but I doubt it cuz most of customers will look into peak numbers, not the shape of curve.

I'm currently running K03 with ecu tune making 260hp 290tq with my (wife's) GTI,
In that car, K03 feels enough for me. (yes, that car has little more room in the combustion chamber than N18)

K04+R56=Not my taste, but...
Really wanna see a mini with K04 and still moves with well balanced manner at track.

Well then you will want a K03 with a larger billet compressor. The stock turbo is outside the effecient part of its compressor map with pretty much any boost increase. You need more maximum flow which bolt-ons won't give you.

Guess something like this..? tempting...
http://new.minimania.com/part/G2NME2...60-61-COOPER-S

This Super 42 upgrade high pressure high-flow dual scrolling turbo uses our big 41mm compressor to give you boost that starts early and last much longer than even the JWC turbo. This turbocharger delivers outstanding response with torque and power gains across the entire power-band and the 42mm design gives you extra boost at the top end when you need it most. If you are looking for an extreme street upgrade that delivers full race performance this is the turbo for you. It will deliver great torque, spool early, and last long. For race applications we recommend high flow / low backpressure aftermarket exhaust system which will allow this turbo to reach its full potential.

Something like that. I would prefer the 45mm billet wheel version but definitely would want to reduce any restriction in the exhaust right after the turbo. If you keep the K03 turbine then EGT's could become an issue. Catless wrapped or coated downpipe with a ported turbine housing would be best.

Actually just tuned a Mini S N18 with a KO4 with with FBO and the car pulls hard even from a red light. We did have a KO3 before and it wasn't impressive at all. The KO4 is really a perfect choice for the Mini S. I will be doing the same to my GP2, but will be getting Carrillo Rods and JE pistons first

Also checked description for the 45mm one, looks like what I need now.
But if EGT issue comes up with more track/race time,, then,, better go with K04 from the beginning. hehe.

Thx for the info, got a question,, how do you secure front grip when you launch the car or coming out of tight corners? I know edlc can't assist that much especially when you have 250+ torque.

This new product appears to add a little more torque and is a bolt and go kind of mod.

http://www.cravenspeed.com/the-koala...nifold-spacer/

In the installation pics, its being installed on a N14 engine. However, it doesn't specify if its for N14 only, or if it can be installed on the N18 as well. It would appear to be ok on the N18, but I would email them just to be sure.
