Anyone replaced AEM Intake filter with K&N Filter?
Just switched to my AEM Intake coming from my DDM Works Street intake. The Street intake comes with a K&N filter and my turbo spool sound was amazing. Everyone thought I had a blow off valve. Now that I switched to my AEM Intake it is dead quiet. Has anyone threw a K&N filter in it? I don't know if the problem is the closed airbox or the AEM Filter.

Yeah the whole, AEM K&N thing happend almost 5 years ago, but the filter design still differs from each other. I'm sure over time the difference will fade. But back to the OP. Noise difference will most likely be due to the partial closed box. I went from a stock intake to the AEM. And I noticed right away it was much louder! Could it be louder? Sure.
But I'm more concern with exhaust noise instead of a hiss. I want my car to growel! Not hiss like a little kitten.

I feel like switching to the AEM from the DDM I gained some top end but lost low end power. Just through test driving. The AEM intake sounds restrictive and the DDM one sounds free flowing. I went ahead and ordered a new K&N cone to put on my AEM Intake. The AEM Cone doesn't seem that much free flowing. Even with the airbox out, I can't get the spool noise as loud as with the DDM with K&N filter. Gives me reason to believe the K&N filter has much more flow.

I see you have the JB+, so its safe to assume you have the N18 engine. I'd say once you're able to get a proper tune (custom) then the whole air filter flow question will be dead. Realistically there is little to no difference once someone has tuned your vehicle. So either way you go, you'll be fine. They're both great filters.

If you're dead set on getting the AEM CAI do yourself a favor, seal off the induction scoop and seal the cutout on top of AEM airbox. You'll get your torque back this way! To this day I don't understand why this happens, loosing torque by removing restriction.
I sold my AEM CAI for $250 shipped on eBay and never regretting it since!

With the AEM it's full throttle or no throttle! There's not much inbetween, perhaps some midrange power, it just doesn't have the getup and go.

Again, with a tune, the low end torque loss is gone. You'll want a freer flowing intake. So, if you decide you are getting a tune, get the intake. If you don't plan on it, keep the stock one. You will get better low end torque with the stock intake if you stay stock(no tune).

Dammit.. I didn't know the AEM Intake for the N14 and N18 was completely different. I ordered a filter based on the specs of the filter on the AEM Intake for the N14 which is a 2.75 diameter. I didn't know on the N18 they upgraded to 3.5 inch diameter. I assumed it would be the same filter.... Does anyone need a K&N cone with 2.75 inch flange ??

I just found this out myself. I ordered an aem intake and I got the tracking information and it shows it was sent from K&N engineering. I was confused because I thought they were competitors. I looked it up and read about it and it is even more confusing, they are "partnering" on certain parts or something. Really weird situation from what I read.
