The Scorpion exhaust thread

I found there is very little info on the web about this exhaust, so here it is the scorpion exhaust for the r53.
Scorpion exhaust from the UK.
Dual muffler system with oval tips.
Price- $550
Build quality looks good, solid welds. Tips look amazing. Piping could have been polished more I suppose. Includes some decent clamps and comes in 4 parts; two mufflers, a y-pipe, and a pipe to replace the resonator. (Non resonated system)
Sound videos and fitment will follow soon.

A great value deal there. Not to hijack this thread, but just for relative comparison, a buddy recently installed the now-extinct Nippon-made Cross exhaust. Great finish, fit & sound. A bit pricier than the Scorpion but you get what you pay for. Here are some pics of the Cross installed:

Notice everything is flanged. No sleeves nor clamps. Install was a breeze w/o any fitment & alignment issues. Japanese precision & quality there.

Looking forward to seeing more pics and hearing it once it's done.

My next mod is an exhaust (unless something breaks...) and the Scorpion is on my list.

Looks good!

Scorpion Exhaust AWESOME

I did hours worth of research when doing my first mod which was my exhaust, I went with the scorpion and would never turn back, this exhaust is perfect, just enough to hear an awesome sound inside the vehicle and an even better sound outside you will never know how loud it really is until you drive through a tunnel or overpass. The price is incredible for the quality you get, no fitment issues and best of all basically no drone which was another thing I was looking for, I felt the Miltek exhaust did not have the sound I was looking for, it wasnt loud enough, The sound the scorpion makes when the rpms drop is incredible the back fire is so much more pronounced it sounds like my car grumbles at every shift, I would 100% recommend this exhaust to anyone who is looking for aan r53 exhaust it hits the reasonable price point quality and most of all sound.

You will be smiling ear to ear! The scorpion is a great sounding exhaust. I have gotten plenty of compliments on it. Some even say it is the best sounding for the R53. It really is a great value. Excellent build quality and the price can't be beat. I have ridden in a car with a full miltek system and it was too quiet for me. I couldn't hear the exhaust in the car. To me if I'm spending the money on a exhaust I want to be able to hear it as I'm driving. I don't want it to drone though and the scorpion fits that bill perfectly.
I recently added an OBX header to mine and it really woke it up. It is noticeably louder when you're on it. When just cruising though it's still quiet. There is some drone on the highway but it's not bad. It also lowered the tone of the exhaust. The sound it produces when driving through a tunnel or overpass now is drool inducing!

Bav can you take a look at this link and tell me if the y pipe section you have looks like the one in the third pic?
http://www.scorpion-exhausts.com/pro...tml?autoid=298
Or is that pipe flat? Can you get a side pic of it for me? When I bought mine it wasn't made to fit the convertible. They recently redesigned it so it fits. Last I spoke with Bavarian auto they hadn't gotten the new ones in yet. Mine cracked and split right at the y and so I need to replace it.

Not sure which mount is used but the shop will figure that out easily.

I was thinking about installing a Scorpion header to mate up to my JCW exhaust. Any feedback on this? Are their headers any good with respect to build quality, fitment and sound? Will it trigger a CEL?

I plan on changing out my OBX header for the scorpion one hopefully this year. I know there was someone here that got one. They were happy with it. I'll do a search later and see if they can chime in here. Or I'll find their thread.

I found the header install to be a first class pain. I had to have the bolt-holes at the flange milled out 10 thousandth because it never wanted to mate with the head. I still ended up putting ARP studs in the head because I never felt 100% positive screwing in the stock bolts. It was better safe than sorry and ending up with stripped bolts. I was not surprised that it does trigger a CEL for catalyst below threshold. I ended up putting an o2 sensor spacer in the back bung to fool the 02 sensor.

The welds and machining look top notch, but I’m not sure why the header flange bolts on mine were slightly off.

Took the Mini for a drive today, exhaust sounds awesome. Almost drone free if under 3k RPMs, pops nice and loud. Definitely a nice deep tone not too loud at all. Tips look awesome, they look huge compared to the stock beer cans. They are harder to keep clean however it seems. Can't speak on the install as a shop did it for me. As for a power increase, I can't say, my butt dyno isn't feeling much. I think once my 15% pulley is on it will really benefit though.

I installed my scorpion a month ago to the day and have been loving it. I got it for a steal at $300 on CL. Installation was a ***** as the bolts that attach it to the cat. were so rusted that I thought they were a 12mm or 13mm when they're actually a 15mm. Ended up having to cut them off. Broke the head off another bolt at the rear for no good reason. Sounds great, doesn't really drone (although it is a bit louder at cruise than stock -- as to be expected), and I've had people tell me they've heard me coming on adjacent streets :D Make sure you really tighten down the clamps good as mine were too loose and the back end shifted up and melted a bit of my rear bumper cover. Guess you're not really a tuner kid until you melt some bumper :D

Best thing I ever did to my exhaust was plastidip the tips. It never looks dirty, I never have to clean them, and I've never had to touch it up. Plus it blends in with the black trim on the car for a nice stealth look.

Glad to hear you like it! the tips are a little hard to keep shiny just from all the soot these cars produce. If you can find a hill where you can coast down in 2nd gear at about 20mph it will burble and pop all the way down such a sweet sound! Your right there's not much of a power increase with it but you do get a few extra ponies
