Well, in the first post I saw the weight ranges from 22 to 34lbs. If I recall correctly only 2 were in the low 20s (and one of those was the One Ball which is more a hacked OEM than a real aftermarket). Taking those 2 out, the others don't really offer that much savings if the real OEM weight is 40lbs. My reference is my ex-335 which the stock exhaust weighted 76lbs and the Britalman I replaced it with was around 46lbs; hence why I asked. It seems the Miltek is the most popular one, but it falls on the heavier side in terms of weight. Thanks for the reply.

From posts I've read here, I have notes putting the stock exhaust between 42-48 lbs. I have one laying around, but it won't fit on my bathroom scale to weigh it .

when i switched my stock exhaust for a JCW exhaust, i heard/saw no difference in HP gain. BUT because of the lighter weight of the JCW, it feels so much better/faster

LOL about the scale! gotta get a pics of that!!! Lol!

Invidia sound inside?

I wanted to ask about Invidia? It sounds great from the outside, but how is the sound inside? I am mostly worried about those long trips 4,000RPM or so? Is it very noticeable, bothering?

If so, would i see any performance difference? im guessing the sound would be alot better

Ive had the Invidia for two years and even with my RMW header its not loud inside the cabin. Even on the turnpike at 85 mph I barely notice it when i have the radio on

I have the Invidia exhaust for my 03 MCS last night from Helix. if i fold down my back seat, the deep tone (bass sound) is too loud for me inside the car. if the back seat is up, the deep tone will cut down a little bit.

I have invidia as well and it's not loud inside the cabin unless you fold down the backs seats. I have enjoyed it very much. sounds awesome. I've gotten many compliments on it from friends and MINI meets

Yeah... I am thinking about Invidia... it looks awesome too. I love sound at idle or low speeds, but I am just worried about those long 1000 mile trips at 4,500RPMs, if it will be too annoying or not? Also, is it legal? Any emission problems? What is the air intake you have, as I need that too?

I think you will be fine. I don't believe its illegal and i had no problem passing the emissions test recently. I have an alta intake with the box top and silicone tube. Its pretty loud at 3,000RPMs so you might get annoyed by it after a while. If I had the choice i would go with the jcw intake. You can find both at outmotoring.com

excuse my ignorance... Is the deep tone and majority of noise level coming from exhaust or air intake? Ideally, in my setup I would like to hear exhaust, especially at lower RPMs, hear air intake (not too much), but at the same time be able to drive long trips without getting a headache.... is that too much to ask?

I was talking about the intake. There are some videos on youtube of the different kinds of air intakes. I would say the alta would annoy you if you are going to be driving at 4,500RPMs for that amount of miles.

what are other not expensive intake alternatives? Alta price is pretty good, but JCW is a little pricey... Also, pulleys, how much power do they add, why 15, 17, or 19? I guess 19 is best, but I heard that high revs can damage the engine...

I agree with chubbycheddar. Alta intake would annoy.
I will like Dinan instead of JCW intake.
I have M7 16% pulley. No problem at all.

Who drives at 4500RPM for extended periods of time? 6th gear at 70 is like 3k right?

Yup,
3100 ish is 75 in my car,
I have the OBX header, with a moroso sprial muffler in place of the zoomers muffler in a zoomers system, not really happy with the exhaust yet, but it is much better than the zoomers muffler,

The intake is the Alta with lid, with a 15% Randy Webb pulley, i liked the intake sound, never annoying, only got load at WOT,

so i picked up the v2 version of the ALTA exhaust, and before i install it im wondering if that "rattling" problem is still present in these newer versions? i know ALTA is working well with the people who have this problem, but is it found in all their exhausts or only some of them?

Mister-Aandrew,
I've never read what causes the problem. Is it something inside that breaks loose? Is it external? Are they not being installed correctly or is there enough variance in each car that some don't have the optimal amount of clearance around the resonator? Without more details, who knows?

Do you have the smaller or larger resonator? The smaller resonator fixes any clearance issues (that's obvious just based on size.) If the cause is internal, the smaller one probably fixes the problem but without knowing the cause, only time will tell based on user's experiences.

If you are not sure of what resonator you have, I have pictures of both here: http://home.comcast.net/~rwkeating/auto/altaexhaust2.html

thanks for the reply. i have the larger resonator, as i can see you had the problem as well, with the rattling. How did you go about getting the replacement from them? was it difficult, i know the people at ALTA are great people and are willing to work with us customers. i also noticed in your vids, the smaller resonator seems to sound a little deeper and has less of the "swoosh" noise, correct?

I spent a bunch of time on my own trying to figure out the problem. I wasn't getting anywhere so I called the folks at Alta, talked with them and we decide a swap was in order (I was still under warranty). I didn't know about the smaller resonator until I opened the package and saw it.

Yes with the new resonator less "whooshing" is heard. I don't know if it is because it is not there or if the louder (other) sounds from the exhaust mask it.

It is not that the whooshing sound is bad. I've referred to it as "jet like" The stock exhaust whooshes a bit too when heard at high RPM from outside.

im not complaining about the "jet like" sound, and plus, how often to we redline our cars anyways :p thanks for the input rwkeating, ill be getting min installed next week, so ill definitely chime in with clips and feedback. one last question, how long after your install did you notice the rattling? was it instantly or after months?
