So I've seen recommendations for anything between 0.8mm (.032") and 0.55mm (.022") for the ILZKBR7A-8G. What are the pros and cons of the standard gap and a smaller gap?

When you increase boost the gap needs to be closer to the electrode because in the change in pressures.

Even though the plugs are sold as pre gapped, I always check them. I have seen a pretty substantial variance at times. It is simple to check the gap and well worth the time.

I know it is frustrating finding the gap at times. I have a 2012 MINI Cooper S and use the BERU plugs. I gap them at the recommended .7MM

Fast, you have a part # and link to those Berus?

I swear to God it's impossible it seems to get plugs locally. No one carries them. The only one that even carriers something in stock is Advanced and they're Densos. Pass.

I would rather run the $4 Champions but those are special order as well.

I've got essentially a bone stock '09 Clubman S (R55) but I'd rather run silver or copper plugs.

They are normally cheaper through the mail (WMW, Outmotoring, Amazon) than local stores anyway.

R56 Spark Plug Gap

the beru are OEM for mini they require the special 12 pt. socket make sure you order when with the plugs ecs is great so is Amazon stock gap is .034. I would gap smaller if you buy the better NGK 1422 plugs than gap them at .022 but you will need a 5/8 socket grinder down thin to fit in the hole.

p.s. please! do not use champion plugs in the mini stock to Bosch or the beru worst case I'd go with denso over champion

Really? Anyone have problems with them? They're copper, inexpensive and have been run in tons of cars for decades.

R56 Spark Plug Gap

I work in a independent shop so we see everything come in and I see people put champions in Volkswagen and Audi and a month later come in with misfire pull the plugs we see champion first thing we do is replace with Bosch 90% of the time instant fix basically the way I see it and experience if you are still stock run OEM don't cheap out plugs are good for minimum 60k spend the little extra money now

that being said I run the NGK with my manic stage 2+ and I only did because I need colder plugs due to a sputtering issue

Not for this application in particular, they are NGK R . Latest OEM part number 12120035531. Some of the Gen 2 plugs are Beru.

All the Gen 2 MINIs take that special socket 14mm 12 point thin wall:

Vinnie, are these the standard heat range or different? For some reason Amazon says they don't fit my vehicle.(makes no sense) Though, they're only $45 for a set of 4.

Watch those general part sites , they are wrong on most of the fitments, like rockaut.. and such.

I think it's probably because these aren't considered stock replacements.

Vinnie, looks like the 1422s are used mostly by modded cars. Mine is stock except for a K&N filter and an Alta BOV spring.

R56 Spark Plug Gap

they are one step colder for a jcw and two steps colder for a mcs they do not fit because they are not twelve point but if you grind down your 5/8 socket really thin it will fit.

it's actually the socket that won't fit not the plugs .

if you plan on more mods might as well go colder now rather than replace later down the road.

if you plan to stay the way you are now just order up the socket and some plugs from ECS this way u got everything u need and you know they will fit. if sticking with stock gap at .034
