If you are going that deep, why not upgrade them?

If you want to keep cost down. I decided since you are pulling everything out you might as well get it all done.

You will kick yourself if you went all that way just to save a few dollars. This is one of those projects that "Well, since you are already there, you may as well do it once and do it good."

I'm in the same boat, 2008 MCS, W2A intercooler, Catless turbo back exhaust, Oil catch can etc etc. Was running Stage 2 tune, switched to stage 3 to see how things went. 2 days later I was down to 3 cylinders with exhaust gas coming out of the dipstick tube. That was back in August. Thankfully I have another vehicle to use. Been saving to do the rebuild.

I'm seeing a few different brands of pistons pop up...any company come out with a full upgrade kit for these cars yet? Gaskets, pistons, rods etc?

Sorry I haven't post anything new for a while. I got the car back and we put it on the dyno and for some odd reason it is not getting the right amount of boost. It is only giving me at most 14.5psi. Had them pressure test everything and we found a few bad hoses which we replaced.

I have attached a copy of my dyno run. No tune I am only at 167.15 at the wheel with 178.90 torque and with the generic stage 4 tune I am at 189.54 and 205.45 torque. We are now thinking it might be the tune. So will see what they say. Worst case scenario I will be working with Evolve Tuning and getting a new tune from them to test.

I will keep you guys posted once I figure my next step will be........

So a few questions fupac:

Who rebuilt the engine?

Where did you find the specs for acceptable ring gap, bearing tolerances, endplay...etc.

Did you guys break the rebuilt engine in on the dyno?

Why did you bail on Cobb for tuning? Looks like you already have stage 4 and are already looking to Evolve for help so i found that weird.

Why the sudden vanishing of this thread starter??
Now I need to either rebuild or buy "new" a dealer JCW N14.
Way states the JCW dealer motor is new, not rebuilt.
Being an ex machinist, does anyone know for sure???
In the 80"s the BMW dealer motors had all new parts but the machine work and assembly was absolute crap.
