Should I use my 440cc injectors w/o a tune?

I have a set of 440cc injectors that were going to be used with a Jan tune last summer. Fizzgig is down for some clutch repair so I thought I would install the injectors unless they would be too much w/o a tune. My sig indicates the mods I have.

No you need to have tune and it won't run right because the ECU is scaled for the factory 320cc.

I have also heard there are big problems without a tune. Air/Fuel ratio gets all jacked up and the engine doesn't know what's going on.

I have 450's from Jan. I installed them the day of the tune @ the tune. Ian and Jan told me I could install them before and drive to the tune but warned me that my car would run like sh--.

I would wait if I were you. It's about a 20 minute install. Remember to have some grease on hand for the o-rings.

With the 440 cc injectors and a stock tune, you'll be running uncontrollably rich.

The amount of fuel getting to the engine is controlled by the on/off duty cycle of the injectors. With slightly larger than stock injectors and a stock tune, the car's ECU can compensate by using the "fuel trim" to shorten the injectors' "on" cycle to deliver less fuel.

But, the fuel trim can only shorten the "on" cycle by about 20%, and the 440 cc injectors flow 33% more fuel than stock injectors. So even with the fuel trim at its limit, you'll be flowing about 13% too much fuel.

I kinda thought that would be the case. I just hate to have parts sitting around gathering dust. Need to find out if Jan will be in the midwest any time soon.

thanks for your responses,
Kevin

You can get a remote tune from Jan that scales the injectors and takes into account your mods. Then, when he finally is in your area, for a few more bucks he can tweak it. It Will make you feel good, and it isn't much money, so I say "Just do it"

Didn't know Jan did this. Shouldn't be surprised, Randy Webb did my tune in this manner. Time to call Jan.
