It depends a bit on who will install it....I like the WayMotorWorks kit that has a pulley, plugs, belt, and DT tensioner stop...one stop shopping...good price to start...and one shipping charge to help save some $$$.
My local Mini guy stocked some of the parts...so I used what he was partial to...and added the DT tennsioner stop...a cheap item that can save $$ if the belt ever fails!!
There are tons of discussions on what size reduction to get...street only, get a 17%, if you ever track it, get the 15%......
Good luck and have fun!! Let the modding begin!!

Anyway, back on topic. I like the idea of one stop shopping too. The Way Motorworks kit would be a good investment. Keep looking and goodluck!!!

Products and "deals" offered by vendors change....search for this specfic question might not be the best option! Remember, he was asking a question that any of our vendors, and many of our members would be pleased to answer!!
Back on topic....are you planning to DIY it, or do it at a pulley party?!
If you plan on doing it, or even have a non-mini shop do it, be sure to set up aloaner pulley puller....most companys rent them for a low price if you buy a pulley....a standard pulley puller just won't do!!

I'm bias so I recommend my WMW pulley package. We also rent the puller for FREE and FREE tech support to install when you buy our Pulley. Please feel free to call us with any pulley questions you have.

I agree with Way. I actually purchased the M7 16% pulley direct from M7, and LOVE it. But I ordered all of the tools from Way, just to have so I can change my belt by myself without paying a ridiculous service fee. The WMW pulley looks about the same quality as the M7 piece, yet $40 less. And to be honest, after dealing with my good buddy Way, I would go to his store for the pulley.

If you haven't dealt with WMW, you should. Order the pulley/pulley package from him, you won't be disappointed with your order. Hands down, best vendor to deal with for performance/maintenance parts.

Btw, here are direct links to WMW Pulley products.
http://www.waymotorworks.com/02-06-c...mance/pulleys/

You will not be disappointed with your order, I promise. And definitely get the Tensioner Stop as an extra insurance. Spending $20 now is better than spending $350 later.

Here is a fairly recent thread on this for additional info Mason.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...82&hg=65&fg=95

After searching, always good to check back with forum for any updates as vendors upgrade their stock and put "kits" together. And feel free to conact NAM's vendors here by phone or email or PM's. They are also MINI enthusiasts, some even race and/or build MINI's in their shops so they have a vast amount of knowlege to work off of.

I agree with this so much. I have had great experiences with Way all across the board. Stand up guy to do business with!

thanks,
well a friend of mine owns a shop down here in sarasota,FL (advanced race technology) and he said he would do it for me. why get a loaner pulley exactly? i was talking to a guy last night about his and he said when he removed his he completely destroyed it. thats pretty much the only reason to get the pulley remover right? i'm sorry if this info is already out there i just really like talking to real people about questions i've got instead of reading it about something that isn't quite what i have. im not a fan of automated answering machines, but thats another thread

EDIT: thanks everyone for throwing in your opinions. i really appreciate it. this is what i love about owning a mini

Removing the pulley will destroy it...the pulley puller simply makes it possible without causing dammage by having to cut the pulley off with an angle grinder (possible, lengthy, and not advised), or having to heat it with a tourch (definately not advised...too many seals etc in the SC to dammage, and the area is too tight...you may light the car on fire !).
The factory pulley is press fit (hot), and is held on by the contraction of the metal...it is on very tightly...a standard non mini pulley puller will not work....that is why special tools are sold/loaned to do the job.
All pulleys of the same reduction sound the same....the differences are slight...some offer better (less) belt wear due to better desgin...most are very high quality, since they are generaly made by CNC machines...once installed...they are mostly the same...the differences is price, service, support, and use of a pulley puller (free, small fee, or sold for $$ to you).
One seller of an inbetween size pulley does seem to have some varatiions in quality, desgin, size, belt wear...even the finish...very surprising considering the companys reputation for otherwise fine products.

When it comes to answering machines...remember many of the best shops are small operations where the ordertaker also turns wrenches....IMO this is the best type...the person you talk to KNOWS the ifo, they are not a order taker, talking from a script...so odd hour calls, or if they are busy may require a callback!

yeah i had very positive experience buying from waymotorworks (i didnt but a pulley kit from them but did get some suspension items).

for my pulley kit i did a DIY with my brother (he has a 04 MCS) and we used the cravenspeed puller which made install much easier than his (he had to heat and cut the oem pulley since he didnt have a puller that fit right).

a really good tip for you that may seem obvious is to put a little oil on the threads of the bolt that goes in the puller. this will ensure the bolt spins freely and will make it much easier to use the tool.

The M7 quality is Top Notch and you can not go wrong! To make things better, if you order online now and enter the code: SPRING2010, you get 15% off the price. I just got mine in the mail and installed it tonight. Excellent pulley and at a 16% size it is a nice compliment in between the 15% and 17% opinions all over this forum. Good luck with your choice.
