M7 Exhaust for R53

Hello Folks,

I came across a good deal for a barely used M7 Exhaust. I don't see much reviews in this forum on the M7 Exhaust, nor is it in the sticky exhaust thread. I see that M7 no longer sells this directly and the threads in the forum have little detail about it. I heard the sound clips on Youtube and it sounds great. The seller is selling because it is too loud for his girlfriend.

Does anyone have additional information on the M7 exhaust with their own personal experience?

Thanks in advance!

The only information I can provide with you is that M7's exhaust is produced by PowerTone. Google PowerTone and you'll see they still carry this exhaust.

Yes it was loud, but I still removed the resonator from it at PowerTone. Think Borla Race w/ Headers. A bit of drone but again I did not care. There was 2 versions, a quieter convertible one and a louder hardtop one, think they ended up using convertible one if I recall.

They were kinda loud, but had a good sound. Also they were heavier than most other catbacks.

Header + M7 exhaust had a crazy amount of drone and more then header + borla race. The only positive thing about it was it sounded AMAZING. I had one for about 7 months then got an Alta fried it and then replaced that with a slightly used Borla race been awesome ever since.

So is a Borla Race louder than an Alta? Would that be an Alta with the original resonator or the smaller (and louder) one? Just curious.

Powertone Cat Back w/OBX header:

I think it sounds good, but maybe a bit harsh.

i'd suggest go with a full miltech exhaust... they didn't get the right sound for the R56 but my GOD they got it right for the R53! their headers are a bit much $$ wise but i've heard many cars around Helix that have them on, and IMHO they are to die for!

Yes the Borla race is louder then the Alta. It was the first version of the v.2 2.5" Alta exhaust.

Thanks for the replies guys. I picked up the M7. I got a good deal on them so if they do end up being too loud, I can probably resell them for the same amount I got them for.

I have the Invidia exhaust and absolutely love it. The blued tips stand out. Has a quiet tone and sounds throaty at WOT. Not like having just a pipe tip.

my alta exhaust with the new smaller resonator is pretty loud!! louder then any mini ive seen so far in my area. driving down a aside street i can make car alarms go off, and especially in a structure. id like it louder, and considered removing the resonator... but it will probably drone wayyy to much!!
