Other intercoolers like the GRS do not use rear brackets and guys in the UK have run those for years and never had issues with front bracket failures....

Sweet !

Mine arrived and is in too OEM Bonnet diverter seems to fit AOK, I have the GP one, but riding the fence whether or not I will swap them out. Btw: All new brackets front and back. They were cheap.

Cool I didn't get the upper diverter as I love the look of my M7 Ram air scoop and didn't see how it could match up? I am going to remove all of the insulation under my hood, so will custom fab something to seal it off

me 2 but currently running their extreme scoop. I have heard of some removing that material. I am not fully aware of the benefits though. Was your objective heat dissapation or weight loss ?

You probably will have to put something over the IC for sure. These types need something to catch the air and help it make that 90 degree down turn thru the fins.....maybe attaching some foam strips to the bare bonnet will help. Another Home Depot DIY

If Alta or DDM made a IC/diverter cover for these GP versions, I would be all over it......

Both. If you look at the R56 they only have the insulation right at the scoop, which is stupid as is it dosen't really do anything, they should have it right above the turbo as it gets extremley hot.

Yea, I modified my Alta diverter to seal up all the gaps and mate with my scoop. The new GP diverter is plastic so........ Might have to think about this alittle

Well installed the IC this weekend. Having looked at the fitment I decided to use my old OEM upper diverter after extensive modifications First I removed the under hood insulation and cleaned everything, think it looks nice Then began the process of fitting the diverter. Completely removed the front bottom piece and cut the top until I got a good fit. BTW, the black plastic is hard to cut with a rotary dremel, it melts too much and that stuff is HOT! Went to the old jig saw and it worked great! I might use some double sided tape to get a better fit on the top, but it looks pretty good. I still need to fill in the dreaded front gap as I did with my Alta diverter, but haven't decided how yet? Plus as you see in the pics, I am going to fill in the little side gaps with some black silicone. Just out of curiosity I set my Alta diverter on the GP IC, it would almost work with some more modifications. Oh and added the sticker, thats gotta add a couple more HP's Here are some pics:

I might use some garage door seal, I had some for the front lip mod, which I never did, and it looks like it might work pretty good?

Really nice work! The bonnet looks so much better w/o that old rUg up there. Honestly those bonnet blankets look like a crappy rug from some old barn .

Looks like you have a really nice seal with the foam too. And the Home Depot bumper lip strip may just work out. I have some OEM regular rubber bonnet seal stuff too, when I am done painting some MINI parts in the garage I'll give that stuff a look see.

Thanks for the photos and write up.

It's to bad Alta never made their diverter for the GP that they said they would. Too bad DDM can't be convinced to make one. I know a few people would buy one.
Nice job on both of your installs.

Thanks! I may try and further cut up my Alta, but I think when I get the front gap done it will be great

Home made weatherstrip..

use some high temp black silicone sealer, goop whatever up as needed, put some saran wrap over it, and close whatever you're sealing. when it's dry you can peel off the seran wrap. It's very stiff but a good way to make some seals for funky corners and the like.

While it's a good idea

I can't take credit. I read about it somewhere for fixing old weatherstripping when new stuff wasn't available.

And no macrame here.... No time...

Are you talking of the large front gap? Or just small gaps? Don't see how that would work on the front gap?

So drove the car to work and stuff today, I'm not sure but it feels like the throttle response is better? Could this be possible by just changing the IC? Or maybe it's just that I spent a lot of money and I want it to feel better

smaller gaps and the like, but it's a good trick to keep in mind. The front gap needs a very different technique.

Butt-dynos are calibrated to respond proportional to the hit to the credit card!

Working on that now, looks like a thin sheet of metal using the existing screw's on the diverter will work Already have cut a piece and attached it. Will run it for a couple days and am going to the ABF/MINI event in Santa Clara this weekend so will let Lynn look at it and I'm sure he will come up with something better

So where is the best place to get a GP IC? Looks very nice from the pix. I assume only dealers can get them.

Thanks

You can occasionally find a used one in the marketplace, if you want to wait, or call your dealer and just give them the part numbers. These used to be available only to existing GP owners, but some dealers are now selling them to anybody
