R56 Factory Service Manual?
Anyone know how/where I can get my hands on a factory service manual for my new 2010 MCS? I've looked on eBay, and they have a DVD with a bunch of BMW and new Mini manuals, but it claims to cover only through 2007. Is there something available that's not three years old? I tried to get the dealership to throw one in with the car, but they apparently feel like it's a huge secret or something and claim they can't sell them to non-Mini technicians.

It won't be completely up to date to 2010, but there has been so little change since 2007 that it will cover just about anything you'd need. This is the only thing available for 2nd gen, so may as well go for it, especially considering the price.
They cover R56. The one I have includes R55 Clubman as well.

Oxy, thanks for giving me access to your TIS. I'm actually glad I saw it before I spent any money on an original version. Holy crap, that was the worst "manual" I've ever seen. Guess the company's engineers were allowed to write the user interface. Took me 15 minutes to find the oil capacity and I never was able to find the torque specs for the oil drain plug or the wheels (random things I thought I'd look for).
No wonder BMW techs need to attend constant training! Can't imagine how much money BMW would save if they just spent the time to develop a straightforward FSM with a good glossary function. This could be the first time in history that a non-factory service manual is superior to the FSM.
WayMotorWorks, please let me know if/when there's a printed version available!

I've been using the TIS for years. The user interface is abysmal. There is no search function, and finding what you want is often trial-and-error drilling down different paths until you stumble on it. But heck, the price is right . When the Bentley manual finally comes out, it won't have extra information. Comparing the Bentley for the 1st gen and TIS, it's almost like Bentley just printed out all the TIS pages.

The user interface is horrible....maybe it's more of the fact that I can't find anything I need, when I need it

I agree completely. The TIS looks like an app from 1990 and would be considered poorly designed even for that era.
There is no search function and I've often had to try several paths by trial and error to find what I wanted (sometimes found in a completely unintuitive path). However, all the information is there if you persevere. The TIS got me through several mods on my 2006 convertible when information wasn't available anywhere else (just like the situation for the 2nd gens ever since they were introduced). Considering the very low price (as low as FREE), it's worth getting.
