Unless there is someone who drives your car that rides the clutch ( most of the time ), = unlikely. When the clutch slipps it only gets worse. The FX200 is a good choise for street use. You would have had to beat the hell out of it for 6k, even then it still might not slip.

Bottom line, IMHO, you're getting a little wheel spin with the cold snow tires. DSC on or off won't make much difference in a straight line. The contact patch, tread design, snow to summer, is BIG. I'd bet you can find some roads, up hill, with some imperfect surfaces, where you can generate more wheel spin than others.

Just do the parking lot test and you will know one way or the other. My method is to set the parking brake, make sure nothing is in front of you. Put tranny in 4th or 5th, rev to about 2500, and dump the clutch. It will either kill the engine (meaning good strong clutch) or it will continue to run (meaning the clutch is gone). Don't let the engine spin the clutch if that happens for more than one or two seconds.

If it is slipping and you choose not to replace the clutch, depending upon how bad it is, just drive very gently until you can afford to replace it. It will get gradually worse and worse until you know it must be done.

good luck

YD

The clutch is def. slipping now. It's slipping regardless of temp/road surface. The biting point on the clutch pedal is also near the very top. My mechanic told me I need a new clutch, but my flywheel can stay since that's still new.

THIS SUCKS because the clutch is about half a year old and has less then 10K miles. I'm in the process of reaching the vendor I brought it from to see if I can get a discount on the second one or some kind of warranty. Ugh... what a nightmare. My MINI will be out of commission for a couple months for me to save up enough.

I just wonder what killed the clutch so quickly...

Does anyone want to donate to the MrCooperS Clutch fund?

maybe you need stronger clutch /pressure plate .with your current set up . i'm not at all familiar with what clutches are good or which are bad but maybe this one isn't for you .

Wow...... that's unbelievable. I have a Spec stage 3+ in my other blower car. The material, compound, on the plate is almost identical to the material that CM uses - 50k still like new. I wonder if the plate was installed backwards.... this will be seen when the clutch is removed - 1 side, of the disk, will be worn & the other won't.

10k = I'd be pissed, I am pissed & it's not my clutch!

1 way or the other I hope you get some compensation.

Thanks for the sympathy. As of now, I'm not going to know what caused the early failure until it's pulled out of my car. The vendor I spoke with says it can be caused by installation error or it can be defective. Also, I may have to replace the pressure plate and flywheel as well, depending on their condition.

At least the vendor is talking to you....this bodes well for a pretty good resolution if it indeed defective. It is always a good thing to have a vendor on your side if you need to try to get a warrenty enforced .
