I've had the RMW cam/header in my car for about a year now and I can say it was defiantely worth the money

Here's 2 video clips from this morning.

1) Heat soaked start-up with windows up(sorry I didn't turn the lights on-not awake yet): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kl1yogWF7ik

2) After the run home with windows down(you can hear some clutch chatter as idle flutters): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUnxrQujNvI

Being a "cam newbie", I wasn't aware that it would idle differently. I'm mostly happy with my mods but the lope can be a problem. For me on cold days...yes it gets cold here (39-45 deg's) in California..I've had my engine stall, loped itself to death while idling. Doesn't happen all the time, but I just have to remember to let the engine warm up for several minutes. If I start it and try driving, it looks like I don't know how to drive stick...it lurches forward.

Seems that most people don't have this issue, so maybe just another "unique trait" about my MINI.

I've often thought about removing the cam, but then I come to my senses about how much fun the extra power is and just try to be more patient each morning, lol.

Wow never had that problem OctaneGuy. Sorry check that, it did stall once in stop and go traffic 20 miles after installing JCW fuel injectors last spring.

Like I said, it's probably unique to my MINI. Jan's looked at the problem, and told me at one point we probably just need a followup tune but I was having a host of other issues at the time that eventually all got resolved after the engine rebuild.

The lope doesn't kill the engine all the time, but it's noticeable enough that "those not in the know" will ask me if my car is ok..yeah just ignore the chattering, it's my flywheel, oh and that engine idling sound..yeah...I'll just give it some gas and a few minutes..oh and that rattling and squeak, yeah that's my fire extinguisher under your seat, just put your leg against it....oh and that creaking..that's my interior body panels..my car is pretty stiff.....sigh.

I <3 your car, Greg. Seriously.

Mine *sometimes* stalls out when I first start it in the morning and put it in reverse to back out of the garage. Otherwise, all is well. It doesn't sound like either of the sound clips above. Nice and quiet at idle - but it does cycle between about 800 and 1000 RPM at idle.

Not mine. My cold engine stalling persists a year after the install. Kinda comes and goes. My mechanic's MINI does the same thing. I just think such things come with the territory in sufficiently modded MINIs.

Wow seems to be some stalling issues, might just need tuned. I put a cam in mine and then got it tuned and have had no problems even in the cold.

I'm not sure how much a tune really would impact that... since at idle the car is running closed loop (I think? Or does it run a different open loop map when cold?)... and tuning is primarily (entirely?) for open loop at WOT?

Yes Open Loop when warming up Blimey. O2 sensors have to warm up!

Yeah... makes sense.

So... probably either a tuning issue, or possibly an early harbinger of fuel pressure issues.

I am very happy with my RMW cam. I feel noticeable difference in the mid range and also feel bigger 4 cylinder engine. When I installed it I had bad idle, but after the tune it works very well and good idle. I will post a video later and you will hear it, it works like a standard Mini Cooper S. Go and buy it

Jan tuned my car so that on a cold start it would idle at about 11-1200 rpm, so it's nice and smooth. When the car warms up, idle falls back toward normal.

Will a cam have a noticeable benefit for my R50? Hope it's OK that I ask you R53 folks. Happy Thanksgiving.

Hey Fritz!

it will have some effect of where the power band is. If you are interested in moving it for a specific purpose then yes.

How's the family doing?

Jan,
Thanks for the input. Always interested in putting more of your great products to use. I'm interested if the seat of my pants will notice a difference. All is well here in Louisville. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. How's the 135?
