Balance shaft removal

To begin with this is a legitiment mod because I did it on my last car and and there was a kit made for it. All 4 cylinder motors are not balance, it just isn't. So most manufacturers put in what is called a bance shaft which is a chan that hooks around the crank and connects to these shafts (there is usually 2) which help balance out the motor. Now these things spin at twice the speed of the motor (1000rpm motor=2000rpm of balnce shafts). These things horribly rob power because they increase rotational mass and they also weigh about 10 to 15lbs. Has anyone ever even thought of removing these or even have heard of this. Now I don't suggest doing this during the warranty period cause they defiently will void your warranty. Some of the cons of doing this are that it increases the amount of oil you need to put in the car, it is a PITA, and you have to remove the oil pan to get to the balance shafts. Here is the product for a QR25DE which is a Nissan motor.http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/cus...asp?PartID=432 Also there is a install and review on the side underneath the description. The reason I bring this up is, almost everyone here is stuck on basic bolt ons and can't understand why they can't crank out any power and this is just an idea to help increase our power output. Take it or leave itbut, I would like to see what everyone thinks.

There are no balance shafts on any MINI engines. Just a vibration damper(AKA crank pulley). Reduction pulleys are available with minimal results.

Porthos, were you on b15? I did this to my SE-R to GREAT effect. It was an awesome mod, but it was a little bit frightening to take a bolt cutter to my motor. Once I got over the fact that it as irreversible and the upsides (increased oil capacity, no BS seizure in the future, etc.) outweigh the downsides, it's an awesome mod.

Kept my balance shaft in the 4G63T in my GSX, but I do see why people remove them. Guess it doesn't apply to the MINI.

Ya man I never got the kit in though I got the chain cut and the damn shafts wouldnt come out so I just left it in there. I figured it was a I4 thing to have balance shafts. Also I am glad that I am not the only Spec owner that went to MINI

IIRC, balance shafts are used on bigger 4 cylinder engines... I remember the Quad 4's really needed one back in 1989 or so...
