We need an update and ETA from Alta. Too many people are on edge about a tune and RMW looks to have one going now. I surely can't wait even if it is programable, because who knows where their at with it and when it will potentialy come out. Alta, are you out there................

Hey folks! It is a true compliment that you guys are asking for an update!

I am NOT an electrical engineer so my terminology isn't up to snuff to those whom are. They are working on making one tool work for all models and software sets from 2007-2010 in one unit, vs. having multiples etc. We are very confident this will be "THE" tuning tool for the MINI community.

But the cliff notes version is that we are VERY, VERY close. The R53 is going to be released first, and the R56 shortly after.

What I can say is that the system will be a handheld unit, that plugs into the OBDII data port when you wish to make a change to the mapping, or if you want to monitor 0-60, 1/4 mi, clear CEL's, data log etc. Stores multiple maps at the same time (for example a Stage Two Map but 91, 92, 93 and 100 octane.) Some mapping changes can be made "on the fly" while others needs to be done at a stand still.

But this is NOT like the other types of products that seem to be close to release. This is going to have a ton of additional features and functions.

ALTA will also be licensing software to dealer/tuners that are capable of making their own mapping. So in addition to ALTA maps being available, other popular NAM tuners will be able to create their own to share or hold proprietary to their clientele.

We will certainly let NAM know as SOON as we can with a release date. but we aren't going to release the product prematurely. Only when it is 110% will we offer it up. ALTA staff is very excited about this product and we know you will be too. Our apologies for the delay, but again engineers are working on this everyday!

Chat soon NAM friends!

We recently discontinued it. HOWEVER we have recently gotten a lot of interest in bringing it back. If I can get ten people to sign up, we could make kits in as little as three weeks. Let me know if you are interested! Thanks for asking!

Thanks for the update Adam. Are we talking this summer, this year?? A rough ETA? And, any idea where pricing might be yet? Are we talking hundreds or thousands???? Also, will this require a Dyno for tuning? It sounds worth waiting for....I'm excited

I hope this late Spring early summer but I just can't say for sure.

Pricing is going to be $500-700 MSRP

No dyno! WE do the dyno work for you so you don't have too!

It will be worth it, but I can certainly understand being anxious! Having one of the early tunes on my 09 JCW I can say it is AWESOME!

Obviously, more to come ASAP!

I don't want to start an argument, but this type of product development isn't like metal tubing in an exhaust system, a silicone intake tube etc. Electrical engineering isn't the same type of thing. It just takes a lot of trial and error, etc. But, I have repeatedly said we are close, because we are, but I haven't ever said "the end of the week" , "within a few days", EVER on this part! Might have been the case on a different product, but not this one.

I do hope to help you with this and other products in the future! Your business is certainly appreciated.

This just sucks... I bought the R56 because of the "fantastic tuning potential" it should have. We're struggling breaking 200hp, while the brand new Hyundai Genesis Coupe is breaking 320rwhp. Crazy. I'm so anxious. A tune is way overdue. Damn you complicated BMW software.

No dyno tune? How can you dyno for us if you dont have our cars?

Not trying to start an argument with Adam by all means, just curious how that works and how that gets max power possible...you do the tune on a car at your shop? Send maps? No rush, just curious like I said...

It's going to be a canned tune I think but he said they are going to allow other tuners the possibility to tune through the hand held unit.

Thanks guys for the questions.

For ALTA Dealers that have the want and ability to tune (in house dyno etc.) and wants to come up to us for training, will be able to make custom tunes in there shop and any other shop they want to fly too.

We will be making calibrations for ALL of the popular combinations of parts (ALTA and others) using local cars, in house cars and we will also be flying our tuner to locations around the country. This will build a map library so we can be VERY specific with mapping. So while being "off the shelf" they won't be canned.

Keeping in mind we are still working on this, but there may be some fine tuning the consumer will be able to do using the AFR signals from the OEM wideband O2 on the car. This will be done through the handheld unit using AFR targets. (More on this later of course.)

OBDII tool will be part of the menus in the handheld.

Hope that helps. Again, please do NOT think we are trying to keep secretive. We want nothing more than to scream things from the roof tops, but best when things are even closer to shipping.

Thank you ALL!

I can already tell you're learning quickly

They way this damn ECU is...I would not run ANY tune on it without having it dyno tuned/tested. What Alta is talking about here sounds great in theory....but come on.

So you can "take it to a tuner near you and they can tune it"....please. I'd never let any "tuner" touch it. Think about it, we're on the 3rd model year of the R56 and theres been NOTHING substantial as far as tuning goes until recently, and even then...there's a lot missing. The car is very hard to tune. You think I'm going to take my car with Alta's little tuning device to some tuner nearest to me and have them play with it?? No thanks.

if you are dumb enough to take your car to a local tuner that hasn't had training through ALTA, or any familiarity with MINIs, then you deserve any negative outcome. However, I don't get the feeling that Adam is saying to do that....I didn't see that mentioned at all, but maybe i just overlooked it.

I am NOT saying take it to just anyone. PLUS a "tuner near you" has to have gone through training from ALTA and paid for a tuner license from us. So no worry that some untrained moron will be able to damage your motor. Sorry if I was in someway unclear!

I think you've got hard to tune mixed up with hard to crack.
The mini uses a Vin encrypted ecm and up until the last couple weeks no one had the tools to modify/tune it via the Can-bus/obd2 port. There hasn't been a lot of push to get it done because the market is relatively slow and even as the numbers have grown, the downturn in the economy has further reduced the number of people spending money on hop-ups.

So elegantly put Nitro!

Very true, but I think you hit on the head with the fact the ECU is PITA!!!
