Thumper TP2 head blog with video

As some of you aware Mike sent us a head to do some testing and see what we can get out of it in the way of performance on the dyno and on the track.

As you can see from the dyno sheet comparing the RMW head and tune on Big Shows car and the Thumper head and Chris tune on 1320’s Mini, it stacks up pretty good.

We still need to do some more testing off combos as and when we can but we have achieved the following so far.

0-60 4.9 secs 25 x 9 slicks
0-100 11.7 secs 25 x 9 slicks
60-100 6.8 secs 25 x 9 slicks

A quick change in the contrast to make the lines a bit more visible. Might just be my screen, but I couldn't see the blue lines at all in the original.

Can you change the colors on the dyno chart. Very hard to read. My old eyes can't see them that well.

Thanks

To what do you attribute the difference in performance?

Which Thumper head is it. Standard valve or big valve. Would like to know so we have the apples to apples comparison.

Thanks

Great work
More torque and hp from 2500 to 6500 - the "sweet spot" oooohhhhh yeah! This is the "range" in which most people drive and hence more usable power than a BVH.
I have had a Thumper head for a while and I didn't need no dyno to tell me that they rock!
Mike has been saying this for a while that the smaller valve heads are great for daily driving ...well there is the proof

Thumper

2nd) TPR-2 Suggested Mods 17-19% pulley/ CAI/ exhaust / camshaft and a tune... we have that covered also.. Still not a full on Racer, however like to show the tail lights to others?? Great power mid to topend (where EVER that is...) Higher flowing larger stainless valves with the under cut stems for even more airflow, MPG isn’t your bother, being there first is!!
$1695.00 plus small core fee

So this head does have bigger vales - correct

YES.. the valve size is larger than stock size, however they are smaller than the full racing BVH ( TPR-3 ) . The Idea is to have a head to your Mods... not have to mod your car to the Head!! This way you can have the power where you use it... look at the dyno sheet!! Power and torque right where we use it. And still enough flow for more future mods. COOL!!

Of course the TPR-1 Head with the port and bowl work is fantastic for most of us with the basic CAI / 15% / and cat back!! Hope I helped.

Just me...........................

Thanks for the reply. Just making sure I had my facts right. Are the valve springs and retainers an upgrade from stock to enable higher RPM use on the track or is that something that is only on the BVH.
Sorry for all the guestions. Just trying to compare my options. RMW, COSWORTH-M7 and yours.

Nice area under the curve, especially for a street MINI, but what about at higher revs? Would the Race head work better above 7k RPM?

The TPR-2 head hits 7500+ rpm with ease. IF you are making that kind of 8000+ rpm, then you would need to email me the profile on the camshaft.. the power rev range and the cam Lift. Then we can discuss the need that your engine requires and make the TPR-3 to your spec.

My experience has shown that the BIG heads are not the way to go on 90% of us , daily drivers!! If you are looking at 8000+ rpm, the you are in a class of your own!! yes?? The dyno sheet shows the power that can be gained with a smaller valved head. So if you dont go 8000+ then the TPR2 or even the TPR-1 Head would be a better performer for your application. The fun is in the drive!! Yes??

Hope this helps...

Our Friends in the UK are taking stock springs to 7800 RPM without issue. We don’t see any value in running different springs in the TPR1 or TPR2. However if you want different springs we can build that for you too.

If you're using the dyno to prove a point that it made more power, why wasn't it faster when you had slicks?

Less Top end power on the stocksized head....However, it gained more Low-mid range as what has been advertised
