I know, I know... bear with me... which CAI?

Sorry guys but I really want some of your opinions. I read some of the other similar threads but I still have some questions. I was about to buy this DDMworks CAI used today then decided I would just get a new one. I went on youtube to hear some of the different sounds made by diff. CAI's.

Is the DDMworks CAI the same thing as the m7 CAI? I already know I dont want the Alta because from I read it seems to make the most noise and I want one that wont sound as loud as that.

A man on these forums who I trust told me to stick with stock and if I HAD to have an aftermarket intake to go with the JCW. Well I dont want to spend that much right now so I am looking at all the other CAI's.

SO, which do you suggest? The deal on NAM today, the DDMworks for 249 plus free cleaning kit looks good. So other than the alta what do you suggest?

I know this has been beaten to death but if you could help make this decision with/for me Id REALLY appreciate it. I am new to minis, modding and forums. So far you all have been great!!!

Thanks in advance.

ps. I get to go out to a fellow Texans place soon to be taught a thing or two about my mini!! Cant wait

I think the Alta sound may be a little much for me. Other than the alta what do you guys think? What other CAI would you go with?

Well that got your attention

I think I spoke too soon though!!! The price I saw is without the hose. If you want to use the stock hose, it's from Coast to Coast USA.

Now were talking. I like the look of that craven one and I have looking at the DDM all day.

Which do you think would be the easiest for a noob like me who has NEVER turned a wrench on a car to install. I want to learn how to do these things myself. I actually cannot wait to do so

I am going to look at the Dinan. Anyone who has had the craven or DDM let me know.

ok, no on the dinan. Would it be fairly easy to return the stock CAI after I get an aftermarket CAI?

I don't think I'd care to "bare" with you, but you are probably "bear"able...

Not sure if this might interest you, but I rather like my Pilo Racing CAI... and for a person on a budget, I just couldn't beat the price, plus it includes the cleaning kit:

I started w/ an Alta that I bought used on ebay. Took it off at MOTD6 this past May & replaced w/ a DDM.

The DDM will allow other mods down the road since it is the same width as the OEM box lower half. It is very well made.

The Alta is approx an inch wider towards the engine as the lower OEM box that it sits on. They fill the gap w/ a piece of rubber molding you're to cut off where the cowl panel that gets removed was.....

I have an alta and really like it, BUT...

While I can hear the supercharge whine a lot more I also hear the boost valve opening. And that part can get a little annoying. It's nice, becuase I can actually hear when the engine / intake are working harder, but at the same time, it can get old, especially on longer drives (recently did oregon to colorado and back).

So while I'd recommend it, I'd suggest you think about how much additional noise you want from the engine bay.

Thanks guys.

Old Rick-wow, you are certainly helpful.

Thrasher-not doing the alta.

Alerious- I looked at that one and thanks for the suggestion.

Intercoolest- Thanks, I think I am leaning towards the DDM, and your post is really helpful because I am planning on more mods down the road. Do you think I would be able to install this CAI having never done any kind of mechanical work before?

Will the Craven intefere with further mods?

Koyama- I have been warned about this and thats why I want to get a CAI that will allow me to easily put the stock CAI back on.

483- are you friends with k-huevo? :P he told pretty much the EXACT same thing.

Thanks guys!

I think im going to get the DDM. Hope I can install it myself

You can do it. It's really not hard at all. You ever work on anything else before like a bicycle, lawnmower or even a computer? It's really all the same...part A connects to part B and so on. Sounds like a Bentley or Haynes manual would be an excellent investment right about now

Well, I have the New Alta V2, but there is the original version for sale here on NAM, looks in great shape, it is inexpensive, and like ANY CAI you choose it iis re-saleable here on NAM if you don't like it ? https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ate/1218455632

Thanks Highlife, I bought the bentley manual ealrier this week. I am waiting with zenlike patience:P

Euro, I saw that alta ealier....for some reason I like the CAI's that are covered...and honestly I dont even know what the difference is. I just like the closed ones better. I am sure I will learn soon enough what the difference they do make

Thanks guys. Ill call and order in the morning. 87% percent sure Im going with the DDM but who knows maybe ill wake up and feel like the craven

Thanks again. You guys rock.

I just installed the DDM intake a week ago. Super easy to install, fits nicely.

The sound is very nice when you're pushing it, pretty tame when you're not.
It was a thoroughly satisfying mod.

Pulley goes on tomorrow, can't wait to try it then!

I got my pulley installed last week and LOVE it.

Thanks for the input on the DDM. I guess tame is a good thing. I certainly dont want to get annoyed after a month about the noise.

Hey, we both have o3 MCS's. Post some pics to your gallery!

I wish I could find a youtube vid of DDM.

sorry dont know k-huevo, careful of some of the metal boxes and horrible welds where the intake tube connects to the box. 3 small tack welds dont cut it
