Hmmmm,

(also posted on mini2.com)

Just thinking.....what if i were to get a getrag gearbox from say a crashed cooper S, and want to fit it too my cooper - are there any major pros's or cons, pitfalls or anything else that i should be thinking about?

Ive an indiction kit, so the airbox shouldn't present a problem, but will the battery position? It has been mentioned that i might have to move it to the back, a la cooper S?

any thoughts?

Gerry

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking about this! My understanding is that its a fairly straightforward fit although the clutch will also be replaced. I've been looking for one from a wrecked MCS for awhile and I seem to be missing the connection. Want to enlighten me to the location of one :smile:

I have no knowledge if it is possible or not, but off the top of my head, issues that I think could come up would be;

-mounts / subframe being different
-gear ratios not proper / optimal for the power band of the MC
-shifter linkage
-any electronic sensors / wiring / programing that reads the trans
-MC's half shafts fitting properly
-clutch assembly and flywheel difference
-fitment of the misc items in the engine compartment around the trans

Murphy's law will make sure it wont be easy.

You can do it... new, the Getrag costs about $3500 I thought, but minimania.com is selling it for over $5200.

I"m not mocking anyone here, but this seems like even a better reason to get an S. The price of the Getrag justifies the pirce difference alone!
