Non-Cooper engines in a MINI

Just a curiosity - has anyone swapped a completely different engine into a MINI? Something from a VW or a Honda or ??

Not thinking to do anything, just curious - the VW forums have folks cross swapping engines a lot though in that case it's generally within the same "family" ie a VAG product.

Considering that this is posted in the first gen forum, I assume you are referring to '02 - '06 MC/MCS, not Classics.

Right, I had seen that youtube clip with the Classic - but have not seen a current 'modern' MINI having being modified like that.

I saw an article in the latest MC2 magazine of one with a Turbine engine in it. I didn't read the article though, but it looks like the engine is mounted in the back.

Yes, we've seen some of this here and there. The moral of the story is "anything can be done for a price."

Yah agreed....though i agree, it'd be really nice if it wasn't as expensive or complicated....more like the VW swaps.

Not enough room in the engine bay w/o a lot of mods.

VW's have a lot more room to play with and the electrics are not hard to mod.

i started a thread on this a while ago. from what was said i think it would be more costly to do a swap than to tune the original.

Put a V6 3.2L SHO motor in it . One of the coolest intakes of all time. And, they're absolutely bulletproof for forever. (as long as you change the rod bearings).

that was my thought, but then you are only getting 180-225bhp from a stock engine, then you have to start tuning, you can get over 300 out the stock bottom end, but thats with alot of mods.

now asuming its going to cost roughly the same to mod the VAG engine as it is the mini its going to cost you alot more to run a 1.8 turbo.

if you want a bigger engine speak to RMW n here. theyare coming out with the 2.0 ltr stroker soon and that should answer everyones questions about power!

cheers

Chris.
