BMW DS at Road Atlanta, Oct '06

I just signed up for the BMW Driver's School at Road Atlanta October7-8,2006.
Anyone else going? If you're thinking about it, sign up soon as I hear this one fills up rather quickly. I went back in March and had a blast. I'm meeting up with some MINI folks from Alabama that I met last time and am looking forward to seeing everyone again.
Hope to see a fellow NAMer or two!

Annette

I remember your post about your school back in the spring and how much you enjoyed it. Sounds like you're hooked now. There is no antidote.

I'd really like to do Road Atlanta, but I've got one in September at VIR and I don't think I can make it to both. Maybe next spring. Are the BMWCCA events down there impossible to get into? Do they favor local members? Do you know of any other good venues at Road Atlanta? Hope to see you there one day.

They do allow members of the Peachtree club to register earlier by a few days. I joined the Peachtree chapter so I could do the early registrations. But, the guys I hung out with at the last event (father and 2 sons) are from Alabama and they all got in and I'm guessing they are members of the Heart of Dixie chapter, but I can't swear to that.
bluesmini, do you know what number you are on the waitlist?

Cool, I'll be setting up "camp" with my buds from the Alabama chapter. I think that they will only have the 1 MINI this time, the other son couldn't get away this time. We will have an ez-up or 2 plus chairs and coolers. Larry will be in his HB MCS and I will have El Kabong, PW/B. I can save you a spot if you'd like but I'm guessing you'll set up with your pals?
I'm staying at the Holiday Inn at Chateau Elan.

I'm really not familiar with the track so I have no idea where my friends and i will be set up. The three people i'm going to be with all trailer their cars. Shouldn't be to hard to spot. The easy one to spot is a white Z3 coupe being pulled by an old ambulance. The other cars are a black E46 M3 carbon fiber hood and a pheonix yellow E46 M3. Most of them will be there for the track walk friday night. I don't think i can pull that off. I'm using two days of vacation Monday and Tuesday.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Ok, I'm all packed up to go, mostly .
As a girl, I must say I'm shocked at myself. I had all the gear in the trailer, my toolbox, chairs, cooler, extra oil, window cleaners, etc and then realized I had nothing for myself!
Had to quickly wash some clothes and throw 'em in a bag .

Well, I'm home, whew.
All in all it was a great weekend, lots of great track time and got to watch the BMW club races as well.
I did great up until my last run where I lost it at turn 7. I made the classic mistake of trying to correct the understeer and ended up spinning across the track Of course I keep replaying the entire thing in my head and can completely see how I SHOULD have reacted . My instructor got me to go slowly through the pit and go back out and I got 2 more laps in and did just fine. It wasn't until later that my confidence started to crumble, I'm hoping I can deal with it and not be a nervous wreck next time I'm out there.
It was just starting to drizzle on and off and I think that mentally that shook me and I hesitated. The track was fine but I was tense about it and that's all it took. Big lesson for me!
Anyway, sorry I didn't get a chance to meet everyone, I had my son there to spectate so I was running him back and forth up to spectator hill between my classes and track time.

Well as it turns out I got a medical pass. Sometime last week my appendix burst and the pain just wouldn't go away. I broke down and went to the Dr on Wed. he sent me straight to the hospital and i just go out Sunday/last night.

Please check out my winded version of what i did last Mon and Tues. though.

bluesmini, I looked for you but just figured I kept missing you. I found your friends with the ambulance, what a hoot! I stopped by their set up once or twice but they were on the track everytime.
I'm sorry you missed out, but I'm glad you are ok now.
I'm already looking forward to March, do you think you'll try to come to that one?
