Help! New MINI owner.

Hi I am picking my new baby(R56. CR/W) up this weekend. Im sure it will look real good with the temporary shine that the dealer puts on, maybe teflon or such. I want to start off on the right foot for protection. I like the sound of the Klasse products. (1) Do i need to wash/strip off the dealer coating. (2) do I need to use the Klasse AIO and then the Klasse sealant or, (3) just the sealant. (4) do i need to wax over this.??. BDY , I am more interested in ultimate protection, than show looks althow I love the shine. I live in Florida, car will be outdoors, Uncovered, plenty of Sun, rain ,road dust, birds, insects and pollen. I intend to wash/ wax as often as necessary.

Turn your caps lock off... thanks.

Kenchan did help, he referred you to the Prima line of products, which everyone on the forum uses. If you were to look at there very well designed website, you could read (you can read can't you?) what each product does and which ones would help you most.

With a new car like the r56, there shouldn't be too many swirls. If you went with the dealer installed swirl package, Prima Amigo should take care of the swirls there. If you feel that there is adequate swirling, go with Swirl. Epic is an amazing sealent/wax and will leave your car looking better than new (honestly.)

I personally have never used the Klasse twins, and have only had experience with Prima and Meguiars. DetailersParadise is an awesome company and I'm sure Heather would be glad to help you out.

Hope this helps.

Actually, I use Klasse products and have been very pleased with the ease of use and mostly, the results. Nice thing is that it lasts a long time and does not leave a white residue on any trim.

Yes. Wash the car in a mild solution of Dawn detergent. This will remove the existing wax.

Yes, use both. You'll like the results. Be sure to use light coats per instructions, especially of the Sealant Glaze...removal is easier.

No...but you can. I don't and I still get comments from other MINI owners about how great the car looks. However, many swear by adding a layer of wax. I believe Pinnnacle Sovereign is their wax of choice.

Good luck...despite appearances MINI owners do use a variety of products...but make no mistake, we all are very into making our MINI look the best we can!!!

I can only tell you what I did. I got my 07 cabrio 3 months ago. I used both the Klasse AIO and sealant and have been happy. I also questioned whether the AIO was necessary, but did it for grins anyway. I suspect strongly that I would not have noticed the difference if I only used the sealant nor did I worry about stripping anything off that may have been put on by the factory or the dealer.

So I guess it depends on where you set the bar. I'm not a fanatic but do hand wash every week or two (if I'm lazy) which is more than enough for me unless it rains in between. So, experiment and see what you like.

I think the Klasse claims the sealant is good for 6-12 months but can be used as often as you like.

I've been using Klasse since last July and am very pleased with how it's held up. If the car is spotless and clay-barred I usually skip the AIO and go straight to the glaze. This weeknd I'm removing and detailing my wheels one by one, which is going to use up most of my clay, AIO, and glaze. Which is perfect, since I'm about to try the Prima products for a few months to see how they work. Pretty bottles.

Florida sun: Make sure to order some 303 Aerospace Protectant or some Prima Nero, for all your black plastic inside & out. These products will make it clean & black-looking, and (more important) will reduce long-term damage from UV light. I've seen cars that have been out in the sun without any love, their plastic parts look like dry spongecake. Radiation bad. 303 good. Nero good.

I've used the Klasse twins on both my Audis and my Cooper for quite a while. I agree that you should start out with both - the AIO has some cleaning/polishing properties, and should be used at least the first time before the SG. Not to get too complicated, but if you want to start out right, you should clay the car as a first step prior to the AIO. Also, when you apply the SG, in addition to using it VERY sparingly, when you buff it off, spritz your microfiber cloth with a detailing spray - it will make removal far easier. Once you go through whole process the first time, then as long as your car doesn't require claying again, you can maintain a lot of shine and protection by just layering VERY thin coats of SG from time to time after washing. I like to do a few panels at a time in rotation (bonnet one wash, then roof next wash, etc.) because its not too time consuming and keeps the car looking great for a long time w/o investing hours. Its a very good product (but I am going to try the Prima stuff, and you shouldn't shriek at KenChan it caps)

Yeah this stuff is addictive and so simple to use. Hard to imagine the results Hydro produces let so simple to apply.

GoKart got it right. Add the Pinnacle sourveign. Spread out the layers a day apart. Do the AOI on day 1, Glaze on Day 2. Sourveign on Day 3.

Good answer gokart!

Your not stepping on anybody's toes.

People can sometimes be very territorial when it comes to detailing. If anything, this "used" to be a Zaino haven.

The fact is there are two fundamental camps ...

Old school carnauba ...
New school synthetic.

Even in the synthetic camp there are zaino zeolots and now Prima. I have a lot of respect for Heather and her products. She has been VERY helpful to me. I still reserve judgement on the product as I haven't had the time to try it yet.

However, you cannot go wrong with the Klasse twins. They are acrylic and will last up to a YEAR (shown emperically by testing done in another thread).

I suggest you go to autopia.org and read a detailers forum. You will find widely varying opinions. And they are just that ... opinions.

Best of luck ... BTW, with CR ... you cannot go wrong with a good carnauba layered over the Klasse Twins. I know because that was the color of my car.

Agreed. Everyone has their favorite, for whatever reason.

The Klasse products are awesome, especially if you are someone who just wants to seal and walk away and not have to worry about it for awhile.

A lot of people in this forum are very "hands-on" detailers - we like to be out there every weekend doing a thorough detail. Thus the Prima fanaticism - it's a line of products that is very much geared towards the chronic detailer, and they do a great job.

So no toes have been stepped on - it's just two very different ways of thinking

I love Klasse because it so EZ to use, altho I've not tried SG yet. and this is from a carnuba convert. Soo.... it looks like there's a:

Klasse camp
Primo camp
and, as always the Zaino campers and their obsessive-compulsive ways

what a great world we live in

I guess I belong to both camps. Klasse and Prima.

I caught the detailing bug before I bought my MINI. My friends have been using the Klasse twins topped with P21S or Souveran and i always loved the way their cars looked. So I bought the whole kit and I was happy with the ease of application and durability.

The MINI arrived late last year and I caught another virus.... the Prima Line! I saw the results here in NAM and the extensive reviews made by Octaneguy. I bought the PC kit along with Prima stuff (from DP) and the DVD from OG and applied what I learned right away.

As MLWagner79 mentioned, I am now a "Hands-on detailer" thanks to the folks here in NAM and SCD.

I didn't get rid of the Twins as I like to experiment on what looks good with light or dark colored cars. I am still a newb in detailing but my friends have asked me to detail their cars. So far, they have been very happy with the transformation. Only problem is that this thing is taking up so much of weekend time.

I'll reiterate that while Epic may also be a great product, Klasse is more popular, has been around longer and is much more efficient in my mind, given that you don't need to mask anything. Klasse has also been shown by testing on this very forum to be more resilient. It is a fantastic product!

You don't NEED to mask with Epic, you just have to be careful around the trim, or just have a towel on you so any splatter that gets on your trim can be promptly wiped off (as long as you wipe off Epic before it has anychance to dry you will be fine.)
