Will Slick get this off?

Grover is frozen!

OG can verify this but... I don't believe the paint will be damaged in any way, as long as you don't try to remove the ice. Let nature take care of it and you'll be fine. Just scrape the windows.

If you can't get into the doors because they're frozen shut, a little cool water or lukewarm water (not hot, you don't want to break the glass) down the door seams will do the trick.

I know what it's like to not have a garage... so I can relate to your situation (although I can't relate to having a beloved MINI and no garage).

Never take your MINI out when there might be below freezing temps, where water has the possibility of coming within 100 yards of the windows or body joints. According to kenchan - this will break your car!

I wish I had a garage for my MINI, but alas the Expedition gets it.

On the upside, the water was beading pretty well when it froze!

That's actually a really cool photo! Frozen beads!

And I second what Chili Red and Pepper White said. The ice won't damage your paint- only if you scrape it. I know you know better than that, so I'm not worried.

By the way, I appreciate your sense of humor in the thread title, m_d. Slick is some pretty amazing stuff, but removing ice is not one of it's attributes. However, this would be a good opportunity for us to compile a list of it's many uses. Besides the obvious (amazing shine and slippery touch on autos), you can use Slick to....

1. Shine up your pet armadillo.
2. Make your mailbox the envy of your neighborhood.
3. Spit shine your boots.

Anyone else ??

I recommend a liberal coating of sodium chloride to remove that. God knows my mini is completely coated in it right now and bone dry. No need to apply with a microfiber applicator.

all melted.

it could be worse. here's a picture from the NYT:

"Five straight days of lake-effect squalls have dumped nearly 100 inches of snow in Oswego, N.Y."

i'm just outside Memphis. Actually it hasn't been too cold... well, kind of the bone-chilling cold, but not like whipping winds or anything. there was a little icy rain this morning, but not much.

The US Air Force sent me to Blytheville, Arkansas for three years, just up I-55 from where you are. I know you get some K I L L E R ice storms through there ! I had almost an inch of ice on my 86 Ford T-bird Turbo Coupe once. Took me four hours to get into the car. Good times. :impatient

yeah, i grew up here and have been away for about 17 years and having been back for a little while now, i'm remembering how this area gets a lot of stormy weather. it seems to be right in the part of the country where a lot precipitation seems to hit. they had an ice storm several years ago (i wasn't here) that knocked out power for a lot of people for a long time. there are also lots of tornado warnings, but they seem to do more damage in arkansas and mississippi.

^ thanks OctaneGuy!

yeah, i thought it was pretty cool looking, so wanted to share.

the last time thing I did to the car was a wash and then finished off with Hydro on Jan. 26. it was then covered with about an inch of snow on Friday, Feb. 2, so it's been pretty dirty since then.

does this seem like a result of Hydro?

You can't have that type of weather in Memphis ... FedEx built their hub there because the weather is always nice...
