Help! Zaino vs. Zymol.

I want to detail my GP properly, but with the minimum time investment possible. To anyone who knows: I have read that Zaino and Zymol are great products...which system takes me less time? Which system lasts longer?

Thanks!!!

Zaino. Either Z2 or Z5 depending on whether you want to hide swirl marks or not. I'd recommend Z5 because if you wash the car frequently, you're going to get swirl marks eventually.

The stuff lasts forever! (6-9 months.....no kidding!)

i dont know... in the winter they last tops 2-3 months.... maybe its the water and the constant exposure to salt...

i am trying out klasse all in one and sealant glanze, and ill report back come january between klasse and zaino, which lasts longer

I've used neither but there are threads here that discuss both. From what I gather, Zaino lasts longer but is more application intensive and time consuming, while Zymol--in addition to being available at a local auto parts store near you, unlike Zaino--is less time consuming and provides as much of a shine as Zaino. The question is which lasts longer tho, and I think that Zaino might win that contest.

Me? I'm a lazy ass when it comes to detailing my S, for I have other things to do in life. I've had great success with Meguiar's products, I use NXT and the QD in between, and I love the shine I get. I also like their ScratchX and cleaner products as well, and the 800# customer service line always has friendly voices on the other end to help with problems. NXT may not last as long as Zaino, but then I can buy NXT at my local Target, and it costs a lot less than the Zaino system which, I think, can be purchased only on the Internet.

Do a search and you should be able to figure this one out. Personally, if I had to choose, it'd be Zymol because I use their leather conditioner on my seats and it's great stuff, and I can get it at Target. The smell after application is really something sweet. Good luck

Zaino doesn't have to be time consuming at all. You don't have to go through all those insane coats. A single coat of Z2 will last you months. In fact the application is much easier so it should also go on easier and quicker than zymol. Zymol doesn't last long, its there for temporary looks not long-term protection.

The past 5 winters I've waxed with zaino in october, and it is still beading 6 months later when it warms up enough to re-wax.

Here's my process for the lazy man.

(Do all this in a shaded area so the water won't dry too fast on the car)

1. Wash car with Dawn - don't dry car (10 minutes)
2. Fill spray bottle with Dawn and water
3. Spray a section of car and clay bar, continue until you cover the whole car (10 minutes)
4. Rinse and dry car (10 minutes)
5. Using a damp applicator (sponge covered with cotton towel material) apply Zaino like you're painting the car. (15 minutes)
6. Let dry (30-60 minutes)
7. Use a terry cloth towel to buff the wax (10 minutes - you can do this in the dark if necessary)
8. OPTIONAL: Spray car with Zaino Quick Detailer and wipe off. This keeps the car from attracting so much dust.

After completing these steps, DON'T wash the car with Dawn. Use a good quality liquid car wash soap until you're ready to re-wax the car again.

When we first our MCS, I was in the mood to pamper her and went to 4 auto stores (Pep Boy, Auto Zone, etc) and could not find Zymol wax/polish. I found one product at one store and gave up and called Zaino and waited until the next weekend...love it. Expensive? $85 for exterior kit. I think its enough for about 3 years. Not real expensive IMHO.

It "ain't"? So what is it, trademark name infringement? Is it false, as opposed to "real" Zymol? This makes no sense, man.

What he means is that Zymol has two product lines:
1) Zymol Non-Exclusive Premium products
2) Zymol Exclusive Enthusiast products

The non-exclusive line contains their diluted, lesser quality products, such as the light blue liquid Cleaner Wax, the leather cleaner and conditioner, and the blue Autowash soap. The "non-exclusive" part of the title refers to the fact that they will allow anyone and anything to sell it (read: WalMart, Target, Pep Boys, AutoZone, etc). IMO, the soap is ok but the rest is not worth my time in this line.

The exclusive line can only be sold by authorised (yes, they like to pretend they're English and use the "s" instead of the "z" ) Zymol dealers. This typically includes boutique specialty retailers only and no "big box" type stores. The products in this line are their estate glazes, Clear (soap), Treat (leather conditioner), HD-Cleanse, etc. The quality level and concentration levels of this line FAR surpass that of the other line. Ignote is referring to this line when referring to the "real" Zymol. (although I can't comment on the use of "ain't"!)

So, yeah, it sounds wierd to hear that there are *2* Zymols, but in practice there really are *2* Zymols. But, they are both owned by Zymol.

Hope that helps clear up the confusion!

Ain't is a contraction originally for "am not" and "are not", but now typically meaning "is not", "am not", "are not", "has not", or "have not". Recently it has also been used as a contraction of "did not", as in I ain't know that. The word is a perennial issue in English usage.

What do you all expect from a WV Hick?

Both Zaino and Zymol are great products. I have used both. That said if you are considering a Carnauba based wax P21s is much better than Zymol. Just as easy to apply and lasts and protects twice as long. Zymol, IMO, gets a lot of enthusiast good press and I tried hard to like it but it simply did not last on my E30 or on my Mini. I tried P21 as was really impressed. It was what I would have expected Zymol to be.

Just my 2 cents.

Rich

Zaino is by far the best detailing product I've ever used (this coming from a hard core Megiuars medallion user). Its no where near as difficult to use as they make is out to seem (put a .5oz of Z-2 or Z-5 and 2 drops of ZFX in a bottle, mix ,apply and, buff off, very easy). It lasts a long time like eveyone says (esp the new Z2 pro, original stuff would be shot after a good rain storm). Their other stuff is excellent as well, ZPC just plain kills swirl marks and their glass product is great for getting junk (like bugs wasted @ 100+ from a track day) off your windsheild

I agree with rpob5t. If you're going to take the time to wax (not that much time actually), you want it to last AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. (see post #6 above)

I wish more people would stress that one with me!

That's not true. The original would always last me through six months of winter, daily driving with rain, sleet, snow, and salt. I wouldn't say pro is more durable, but it does cure faster and I think thicker and therefore looks deeper.

jwardell, like you I was hardcore Megiaurs. I have now found Zaino to give me the look I like, and the ease of applying. Time will tell how long it lasts.

I mean that it can be very simple to apply. I have never had any attachment with megiaurs.
