Yes but he does get the bird ammo off your paint, on call (which is why I think he is still in business) and he has good enough contacts he gets paid to do what most of us do has a hobby on the weekends with cars 10x more expensive.
It's probably Gold Class paste, taken out of the cans.
For that ammount of money, I'd apply the wax with my butt cheeks.

Maybe this detail thing at your house isnt such a safe idea after all....
But... but... that's the WHOLE POINT of the get-together, dude!

I have got to learn to read the fine print. This whole time I thought I was going to be letting people use my RO... No where on the anouncement did I see anything about bringing singles....

All that money for a detailed job, and he is violating a cardinal rule by washing the car in direct sunlight. And I noticed that most of the products he was using was zymol. Something we all can buy. If its pure carnuba wax, then how can it last up to 6 months? Hmmm...
It is nifty watching him apply wax by hand... Has he uncovered a secret we all should be doing?
I imagine Octane Guy is pissed right now. The job he does, and I am sure he doesn't charge in the near thousands. On a side note, if I owned a bugatti veyron, I would wash that car just by licking it. Skip the hand job
I noticed he wasn't terribly careful swinging that bucket around; ponceing around with the pressure washer; or clackety-clacking the alloy wheels with his $40,000 whell brush made from the pubic hair of Patagonian virgins and chewed by toothless Eskimo maidens to a pulpy non-abrasive texture.
What a wanker!!! He ultra-sonically measures the paint to see how many microns he can take off? Bollocks! What about the next wax job? Where's that safety margin next time? It ain't coming back y'know.
On the other hand, more power to him if he can convince rock stars that a 10 grand wash is necessary. I wouldn't mind his van either.....sweet set-up.
I agree... more power to him if he's convinced these celebs to pay him that! It's sooo crazy though! I read an article about this guy quite awhile back but the video is fun to watch.
I'll bet a bucket o' quid that the citrus degreaser and the wheel cleaner is P21S Total Auto Wash and Special Performance Wheel Cleaner, respectively. The prices (if I'm converting correctly) sound like they match up just right. And, they both come in 5 liter jugs. His descriptions sound like a perfect match to P21S.
I like that he calls the drying towels "microfiber blankets"!! It does make them sound fancier, doesn't it?
On the depth guage comment, although it does sound hokey, we've found that several exotics, particularly Ferraris and Lambos, have varying thicknesses of paint. And, Ferrari and Lambos have super soft paint. So if the last guy went to town on the paint, then when this guy gets it he may have to be super careful if it's already really thin. Although certainly WAY overkill for most any normal person, if you have a Ferrari or Lambo to detail, I would suggest using a depth guage too. Crazy as it sounds!
Hey Heather, if you want to drop by and show us "alternate application techniques" using some other soft surface, by all means feel free...
That said, you'll be hard pressed to match the softmess of my as...
Ern, nevermind. Forget I said that.
As for the paint guage thing, I know that I've heard Octane talking about it in his posts, so it must be a legit. If I were worried about screwing up the paint on a $750,000 car, I'd be super anal this way as well. I found his checking for "microscopic bumps in the paint" with a loupe hokier, personally....

ImagoX- (that's all I should say or we'll all get out of hand!)
Indeed, I found his loupe hokey too! Just feel the damn paint with a baggie or something. Good grief.
BTW, Nick (here at DP) just said that that guy posted (somewhere??) a defense of some of the critisicms of his work. I guess he said that Top Gear (who made the clip) cut out alot of what they shot and also asked him to be very brief and just give a quick overview. He also defended that he only does the uber expensive details on occasion for special clients. His regular details are pricey but somewhat normal. For what it's worth...
Eh, it's all sour grapes. Anyone in here would charge some rock star $10,000 to wash his car if we could get away with it. If any feckless millionaires are reading this, call me! I'm telling you... nobody offeres my soon-to-be trademarked "twin cheeks" application method. NOBODY!!

Fifth gear episode is I remember right. I am a little more carefull with the Micro cloth, I have the same expensive ones and the thing is , its not good to dry it with, leaves fine marks.Perfer synthetic drying Shami. I have detailed car in the $150,000+ range at my old job. And I don't rub the car as hard as he does. This leaves lines in the top coat. I used to finish final stages after the paint shop would leave orange peel. Hit it with an angle grinder with a 3M finishing pad mounted and 3M deep glaze. 5 Hours later. Very nice. In fact you can use this for fine marks down the road. Of course I cannot tell you all the process.
I give him credit for the wax, that is a Baccarrt Crystal case, inside the top level Zymbol wax in a two stage process. Unlimited refills. Like pop at Mc Donalds..lol
